Pins and Needles

At the end of each run (ie in the warm down walk) I frequently get pins and needles in my foot. This doesn't occur during the runs and goes within 10 mins. Have tried loosening my running shoes but this hasnt made much of a difference. Does anyone else experience this and is there anything I can do to prevent this?

pins and needles, often in the hands rather than the feet, may be a sign of hyperventilation- your blood is over-oxygenated by heavy breathing. This can also make you feel faint. Remember the first aid tip about getting someone to breathe into a paper bag to equalise the oxygen by re-breathing CO2? Try to control your breathing by using your nose to breathe in and breathe from the diaphragm. Push out your stomach to drop the diaphragm and expand the lungs when breathing in and pull in the stomach to raise the diaphragm and squeeze the lungs when breathing out. Keep it all as gentle as you can :)
