Starting out
AWESOME! The first week is the killer, you are doing the hardest part by getting out there and doing it! GOOD LUCK!
Well done, you'll enjoy it I'm sure. I do even when it hurts (a bit).
Good luck, try not to injure yourself the first day like I did!!!
Thank you everyone for the messages. Saw my GP today for the go ahead (I have been ill, so needed his say so), bought my RUNNING trainers, my new ipod ear plugs-ones given with device are just so awful-my dry socks, my hand water bottle. Not much change out of that, so tomorrow morning is THE BIG DAY!!!!
Anyone live in Poole? I was thinking of going to Poole Park, as it's nice and big. Not only that I cannot for the life of me see any point in exercising in the street and sucking up all those car fumes-yuk.
I will try not to injure myself Jaycerose
Really have to do this, as I used to be really active and I've gained so much weight I am now obese and not proud of it. Our grown up children are worried about me, especially the middle one, and he put down the website for me to look at.
I'm not going to tell them I'm doing this-let it be a surprise. We've changed our food source and now it's time to start the burn.
I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.
So good to have you guys out there who have already done it and you support-means a lot.
very good luck to you. It's going to be hard sometimes, but well worth it!
Thank you Diamondwitch. I seriously didn't think I'd get through it all, but oddly the last jog was easier than the first and seemed shorter too. My knees ached, but that's gone off and I've felt great all day. Just collected my husband from chemo treatment at the hospital and didn't take the lift up one floor. Normally I would be gasping by the time I reached the top, but I was breathing normally, so I'm hoping the good is already kicking in (eremind me I said this next week when I go to level 2 :-)).
Good luck Pearsey, I was surprised how difficult I found the first week as I am now 46, overweight and apart from the odd spells haven't really exercised since I left school.
I did actually repeat W1 but found W2 easier and am now on W3 - I won't say it's a breeze, and I'm not going to be challenging Usain Bolt but I have completed runs 1 and 2 at the first attempts so I'm really happy with the progress I have made. If you had asked me after my first run if I thought I would be able to run continually for 3 minutes in as many weeks I'd have laughed at you (well if I hadn't been gasping for air at the time anyway).
Well done for having the courage to get started and good luck :o)
Thank you for that mcc65. I've a few more years on you-well, physically anyway, not so sure about mentally, lol!! I'm 63 and used to run everywhere-everyone used to say I made them feel tired just watching me. Due to illness that all went out the window, and now I'm very overweight, and can't run anymore-or so I would have said until today.
If you can do it, then so can I. You are an inspiration. I amy have to do as you did and repeat w1-but what the heck! I'm doing this for me and the family, in that order, so so be it if it takes me a bit longer to get going:-).
Roll on Saturday morning-W1 2nd time round.
Thank you. Pluck up the courage Flibbertygibbit and go by that canal-nothing like running outside-and have that treat now. You can do it, as Laura would say. Look forward to hearing that you did tomorrow x
