Ran the Forfar 10k yesterday with my running buddies - mum and sis-in-law. For once I wasn't at all pleased to see the sun, so hot! There were around 300 runners, not a huge event but there did seem to be a lot of running clubs and what looked like "serious" runners so feeling a bit intimidated.
The 3 of us took our place at the start line somewhere near the back and off we went. I had endomondo running on my phone headphones in so I knew what my pace was, I was aiming for an hour or under and the first km came in at a 5:29 whoa nelly better slow down! But I was feeling ok and my sis-in-law was a little in front so I tried to keep a steady pace with her. Got to 3km and was slowly catching up with sis so had a wee chat with her and we ran together up to 6km where thankfully there was a water station. After the best cup of water I've ever had in my life I got a second wind and kept my pace steady, there were a couple of hills at 7/8km and people ahead started walking, "not me" I thought and I was determined to keep jogging even if it was slow.
At 9k we had came back into the town centre and my dad and nephew were at the side cheering us on, I went for a sort of sprint finish and came in well under the hour at 57:44! For the first time ever I came in before mum and sis and I think they were both a little shocked since they've both been runners for 10+ years and little old me has only been running for 6 months! Afterwards we had a lovely family picnic at the beach so all in all a successful day
