Hi Everyone - I've found the site, downloaded the podcasts and I intend to start tomorrow but just by way of encouragement are there any other over 50s out there who were fat, unfit, hadn't exercised for years but managed the program ? Please let there be at least one
Looking forward to the program, a change is needed.

I'm 53, overweight and unfit. Just started last week and doing 3rd run of week 1 tomorrow. I know it's not going to be easy but I'm determined to give it my best shot. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and I'm so glad that I'm not the only fat old fart that suddenly realises he needs to get fit (no offence intended, I'm the old fart, I'm sure you guys are really wonderful). I'll give it my best shot.
Here's another one here. I'm 58 and unfit. Hated sport and running and am half way through Week 4 of the program. I've lost 3 and a half kilos since the start and feeling fitter by the minute. Remember - age is just a number. Good luck and keep on posting
I like that idea Delia, "age is just a number". I don't feel old, I still feel in my early 20s I just don't look it any more. Like you I hated sport in school all those years ago I remember cross country running which was a legal form of child torture in the 70s before they became soft
53 years of age, a few days ago and graduated in May from this programme. You will be surprised how well you do. the first few runs are difficult so don't be surprised, it was only when I got into the 6th week I convinced myself I was getting a lot fitter.
If it helps, I meet your criteria on both counts. I've always been overweight but I am getting smaller and yes, I am over 50 in years but not on the inside. I started C25K at the beginning of July at the ripe old age of 59 and I have had a big birthday in between. Tomorrow I do Week 8 Run 1. Enjoying the challenge and looking back the journey it is amazing considering I have never run before and always said "I can't run". Well, I can, and what's more I am enjoying it. Struggled with Week 6:3 and on Saturday I did the York Park Run which might have been a bit too soon in one way as I haven't graduated yet but I wanted to know just was 5K actually was. Time wasn't great and I had to walk some of the way but hey - I got to the end and was so pleased and still riding high. Go for it - I'm sure you will rise to the challenge and enjoy it with no regrets - and Laura's a great companion to help you on your journey.
Good luck today and YES there are some of us over 50. I am 58 and started last week and I must admit I found it easier than I had imagined. I am not saying you will find it easy but it was to ME less difficult. I would even say I have enjoyed my first week and start my second tomorrow after having an interview for a new job in the morning. I hope you stay with it and look forward to your comments.
Thanks everyone for all your replies (and keep them coming). I'm really encouraged by the number of people who've trod this path before and that they too started out roughly where I am, overweight, mature and unfit.
I'm another of the 50+ club and am using this programe as part of a fitness/slimming world health plan, graduated in July and still totally shocked that someone like me can now run for over 30 mins non stop! Working now with 25+ and it's hard!!!! I really would encourage you to take a Well Woman (or should that be person) check at your doctors first, it's free and may help your confidence that you can do it safely. It can be done so get your shoes on.
Here's another 50+ success (work in progress?) for you - this time last year I was nearly 5 stone heavier and couldn't even run to catch my train to work. I had avoided running for all my life since mid teens really.
Discovered this programme through the Weightwatchers website (so many other members had done it and bragged it up) so thought I would give it a try in December last year.
Talk about a born again runner!
Last Sunday, I did my first 10k race and loved it! I enjoy running on my own, just me and my dog in the lovely South Wales countryside but as a challenge to myself I have also just joined a local running group that meets once a week to work on speed. Have done my third session tonight and had a great time with some lovely people.
Your success is really something Deryn. Could you run 5k carrying an 80lb bag of coal ? It's where you started, which is why I'm so impressed. I need to lose at least 3 stone and preferably 4 as well as getting fit.
Hi, 54 and graduated about 3 weeks ago, it's surprising how the body adapts, you will feel empowered. As the weight loss happens the running just gets better. Everything to gain and nothing to lose (except the weight of course).
I'm 52 next week and have just completed Run1 of Week 4. I had 8 stone to lose when I started Weighwatchers at Easter, I've since lost 3 and 1/2 stone and was looking for something extra to do (I'm a dog walker by trade and spend about 5/6 hours a day walking) and a friend suggested C25K. I never believed i would get this far, but I'm loving it and try to keep a positive outlook all the way through, which I think has helped me not give up at any point (so far lol!!).
Just believe in the program, know that everyone else started in pretty much the same condition as you and listen to Laura!! Good luck :-))
This is really amazing. I'm sure I'll have my off days but hearing from all you empowered 50+ ers fills me with enthusiasm to achieve what you guys have already achieved. The message is loud and clear, over 50 and out of shape is not a prohibiter, it can be done and people are doing it.
Hi, I'm 57 and graduated last week! Keep at it - you can do it (as Laura tells us so often!). I've lost a load of weight too and feel brilliant.
We've all had our off days chewy. I'm 52 and thought I was going to die when I ran for that first 60 seconds! It's surprising how quickly you improve! Good luck and keep posting!
