What is 'light jogging,' am recovering from shin splints and am keen to get back out there. V. frustrating as I was about to finish W6. In two minds whether to start again from W1 or just do 10 mins 4 x a week. Any advice? Thanks

Light jogging?
Im sure I read somewhere that jogging is anything under 6miles an hour (10minute mile) & running is anything over 6miles an hour. personally, Im a jogger who very rarely steps up to slow "runner" speed.
sorry to hear about the shin splints. painful have you invested in new trainers yet?
x
Hi Shelleymcb, thanks for that advice.
Have got new insoles for my trainers from the podiatrist as I have dodgy big toe, hallux rigidus (I know sounds like a dinosaur)! Think the old insoles weren't very helpful!
However if no improvement will get my gait checked out. Just want to get out there, have def. been bitten by the running bug :)) xx
I got shinsplints in week 3 or 4.
Really painful, I sympathise.
My son advised a foam roller and it helped almost immediately.
I was better within a couple of days.
It was actually my calfs which were causing the problem.
Good luck
Thank you, have heard of those, will try that out.
Hi Running Wild
I hit shin splints at exactly the same stage as you. I didn't rest them for long enough and ended up missing out for 6 weeks . When I went back I didn't go back to the beginning and started at week 4 again. I ran much more slowly and concentrated on changing my style as I previously "bounced" a lot when I ran. The other thing I do now is leave 2 days between runs instead of 1. So far so good and I've managed to keep going past week 9 without any real problems (except for the usual huffing and puffing that is). Good luck.
Hi Heartboy, that sounds like a good idea, as feel I can run now for longer than 60 seconds! Research seems to be telling me that I over pronate due to my stiff big toe as I def. haven't got flat feet, which is one of the reasons. Yes I think people can hear me coming before they see me, with all the huffing and puffing. It only seems to be people out walking who give me strange looks, not runners who understand my pain!
Oh well, see what happens in a few days, thanks for the advice.
