Ok, so this is my first 'proper' blog post as I was SO not up with the whole 'blogging thing' and previously posted a question here by mistake...
Over the weekend I ran my first 'official' 5k in a sponsored run (for Azalea) and perhaps this has made me feel a bit like a 'proper runner'... also as most people will know, it was father's day (in the UK at least) - which can be a time of mixed emotions for many, so perhaps I was a little overemotional with it all! Anyway, I got to thinking and reflecting, especially on the past 3-4 months of couch potato to running... Then my running-journey buddy and husband, J got one of those sets of scales that measures your body fat/lean mass percentage as a gift and it got both of us SERIOUSLY thinking ;P
So, I've decided to try to record progress because I was surprised at how quickly I've forgotten the earliest days of starting c25k and also because I'm now beginning to take it more seriously and want to begin to make progress at becoming a better runner, now that I am actually fairly confident of my 'staying power' - on good days ;P
C25k, so casually mentioned to us by a friend who's succeeded on the programme herself, in spite of injuries (overlooked by her physio, who has also been impressed) really captured my imagination and has changed my approach to life and fitness. It's more about the 'mental' achievement than the physical for me, although it started out as being something J and I needed to do for fairly serious health reasons.
The health issues are beginning to sort themselves out, but the programme has helped us to learn about patience; as Confucius said, 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' and I think you can honestly hear this and many more thoroughly true proverbs, but they don't make sense until the light bulb goes on and you're suddenly applying them in your own circumstances!
NB - I hope this is the best place to keep this kind of 'progress' blog - if not, hopefully an administrator will point me in the right direction and remove it for me!
