Fitbit records my RUN

I'm so chuffed having completed W2R2 this morning my Fitbit has registered my run as a RUN - and I thought I was going so slowly 😁

I got out early to beat the heat and so glad I did as I was very red when I finished but feeling great 👍

Blimey... my 'purple friend' almost never accepts my runs as other than walks, cheeky mare (which I guess means that completing the session and 'a running motion' should take priority over our fussy friends, but nice to get the affirmation!)

If your friend is a Fitbit, you can tell it you were running. On the app, from the dashboard, select the weekly exercise icon, from next screen, select the run in question( mine sometimes say elliptical or workout). On the next screen, near top, under summary is 'categorize exercise'. Select 'Run' and hey presto, it starts giving you pace times. They were a mystery to me too, but we are all learning!

Hope that helps

Yes... although the way I use the Fitbit is more fit and forget (largely, until the end of the day when I assess) and use Runkeeper on my phone (which similarly I have to decide to start) to track runs.

That's why I like it, it can be done after the fact, ie when I remember! You can go back now and do one from last month if you want to. No need to remember to start it at the beginning of run, I'm usually fiddling with podcast and stowing phone so I sometimes forget.

That's useful to know, thanks! Do you know if this might 'teach it' over time that that's just how I run?

Not sure 🤔 but I have found that as I progressed thru the weeks it got better ( I'm in six now). I put it down to more running and less walking segments but maybe it was learning!

Does it matter what fitbit you have? I have an Alta and I think mine only tracks steps

Mines a charge HR so it has heart rate monitor but no GPS. It work s out how far I went based on steps rather than gps like Garmin etc so not as accurate. I think it might guess if I'm running or walking from my heart rate which yours won't do, I guess.

FYI I wouldn't necessarily recommend what I have, it's just I got it ages ago before running was ever in my future!!

I have an Alta (3 months old). It recognises exercise after a certain number of minutes & claims it can tell what the exercise is. Mine always says walk when I am running. Lol

I use a Fitbit Alta (the original one not the HR) Really like that it is easy to wear and wear it all the time ❤️
