I run on the treadmill. I use the get running app and have a DVD player taped to the treadmill so I can watch something to distract myself! Someone at work uses 'Laura' (I hope you understand what I mean!) and said she is really motivational. I am due to do w5 r2 next And could really do with some motivation but have struggled to run without the DVD in the past - can anyone recommend which app would be best?
Laura or Get running?: I run on the treadmill... - Couch to 5K
Laura or Get running?
I don't know Get Running, but if you haven't yet tried Laura, I strongly suggest you give her a go - she does chat to you less from week 6 onwards, but she's still there :-). I find the music entertains me enough - but I should add that I mostly run outside so there's more to look at than on the treadmill! Might you venture outdoors one day soon, d'you think? I can highly recommend it.
I did the first few weeks on the treadmill, with Laura. I found her very motivational. She also gives useful bits of advice to help with breathing, running style and stitch. Once the runs got longer, I found I much preferred being outdoors and changing my routes - the treadmill was just too boring.
Go on, give Laura a go ! And try an outdoor run too
i personally find a treadmill more daunting than outdoors (fear of falling flat on my face i think) i am not sure if i could have done what i have done without laura, just about to start week 9! considering i could not run up my own stairs before begining this programme, hats off to laura!! x
I keep chuckling imagining you with a DVD stuck to the treadmill!!
I run on a treadmill too and have completed the whole programme on one, I'm going to venture out on my first run outside now I've graduated, not sure how I'll fare! I have used an app too and haven't had Laura, but for me I wanted to listen to my own music and found that's all I needed, well that an utter determination!
I found the treadmill boring and as the weeks wore on I needed something to distract me, to take my mind off how much longer till Laura said '60 seconds to go'!
Laura kept me from throwing a tantrum on numerous occasions, I like Laura
Laura is free and inspirational and highly recommended. Having said that I bought, and use, Get Running on my iPhone as it logs your runs as done/not done, a nice lady like Laura talks you through the programme, you can filter out some of the voice prompts if you like and you can listen to your own music which is a real bonus.
Ideally I want both! I want Laura's motivation with no music so I can still watch the DVD! The get running app gives the voice commands either over silence or your own music - but I don't find it very motivating! W5r3 next so I am sure going to need some kind of motivation!
