If you are only just starting then you will probably manage better with only a small amount to eat, and then more when you get back (rather than having a full, sloshy tummy), but as you get further through the weeks you will need the fuel for energy. Good luck - especially with eating the weetabix - can't stand the stuff!!

I have a normal breakfast but wait an hour before going. Then have a banana when I get back. Prefer evening runs myself.

Good luck.

I've finished the programme and never eat before I run - its what suits you best I think.

Some people have nothing but a glass of water (or cup of tea) before a morning run. I have done this a couple of times (I normally run in the evening so there haven't been many opportunities to experiment) and it's been fine - in fact any hunger pangs I might have tend to get suppressed and then I don't feel hungry for a while after getting home.

But if you do want to eat something, I'd do as you suggest ie banana, giving it time to go down (30 mins or so) then enjoy the rest of your brekkie as a well-earned treat when you get back!

I would try running with a small banana in your tummy then wait half an hour to an hour., it's low fibre but will release sugar into your system. I have found and discovered that higher fibre cereals/bread can cause some..ahem digestive discomfort" during or after a run if eaten before you start!

good luck and enjoy the couch to 5k, it is such fun and will really change your life for the better! ;-)

I also only eat a banana then treat myself to a bowl of porridge when I get back. Something to look forward to!!!

I run first thing, just have a glass of water before I leave and 127 fun-packed calories of diet porridge when I get back (with black coffee and more water)

I usually have a banana beforehand and then a couple of boiled eggs once I get to work. Bliss !

For most of my adult life (I am 50) I was convinced I couldn't exercise in the mornings, especially without having eaten/allowed time for the food to go down. I have now changed my tune - if I know I need to run early, I make sure I am well hydrated, the evening before, I keep water by my bedside to sip as soon as I get up, then have a few bites of banana and a couple of mouthfuls of tea and I am off! I have even been known occasionally to get out running by 6.15 am before work recently!

I can't eat anything beforehand, even up to two hours beforehand something small like a banana or a cereal bar can try to repeat on me, so I always avoid breakfast before running and will take a gulp of a sports drink or fruit juice instead. I think I have a weak stomach in that sense - it will be experimenting and seeing what suits you best.

breakfast (cereal or toast) & a cuppa tea, then my run comes at least half hour afterwards. I prefer to run in the morning. seems daft to me to get yourself sorted (hair, makeup etc) & then have to remove my makeup to run in the afternoon. especially as I get so hot that I like to shower or bath afterwards.

Dorset cereal and a cup of tea then out for a run half hour to one hour later. That works for me.
