Early morning run? Thoughts please!

Hi everyone!

Due to work commitments I normally run in an evening (about 7pm), however, tomorrow I have chance to run first thing before I set off for work thanks to a later start. I've never attempted a run at this time - is there anything I should do first thing to get prepared for it?

I'm normally an evening runner but did a morning run today. Had a coffee when I got up, big glass of water before I went and it was fine. Had breakfast when I got back. Felt very healthy when I went to work. Enjoy ;)

Make sure you drink water! I find that my mouth is more dry in the morning runs than in the evening ones... The verdict is still out on which one I like better! ;) But there is definitely something to be said about morning runs! I feel like I can conquer the world after completing one in the mornings!!

Also, for some reason, evening runs wake me up more and I have a harder time winding down after...

Drink water the day before and then have a cuppa or whatever before you go out. I try to 'use the bathroom' too. Nothing else really :)

I always run better in the morning but rarely have the chance to go then except at the weekends :(

Hidden says it all. Hydration tonight is more important than tomorrow morning, although I always have a pint of fluid and half a banana before I run, but it doesn't suit everybody.

I maybe have something very light in the morning, about an hour or so before running, and make sure I'm already hydrated properly the day before, don't drink too much beforehand or will feel like having a pee while on run, and of course drain the sump well pre run!😊

Water before you head out and if it's dark make sure you've got a light of some description!! I love early morning runs and have just purchased a head torch as I'm usually out by 6:30am!!

Good luck for the run and let us know how you get on!!

What works for me is either a banana or a hard boiled egg, with a glass of water. I did pre-dawn runs last winter as well as high heat/humidity ones this summer.

Good rest and prior hydration helped in both scenarios :)

If all boxes ticked properly (do NOT forget to prepare the best music that YOU like) you will get a great kick :)

I've only managed one morning run due to work stuff but found it by far the best....not hungry when I wake up so I went before breakfast. I so wish I could run every morning!

I love morning runs far more than later in the day. It leaves me energised and buzzing. Like others have already suggested, I drink plenty of fluid the night before and if I'm organised get my kit ready before I go to bed (it saves time with faffing of which I am an expert😂).

In the morning I have a mug of decafinated tea and that is all. I'm a "woman of a certain age"so can't risk carrying too much fluid -need to practice those pelvic floor exercises more often I guess). I also prefer to have my breakfast when I get back, as a reward.

Good luck, I hope you enjoy the morning run.

I did it! And I know you're not supposed to check times but it was my quickest run yet managing just shy of 4k in 25 minutes. I'm chuffed! Looking forward to a bath and brekkie! Thanks for all your help and encouragement.
