I'm hoping to start C25K tomorrow and ideally would like to start running at the start of the day before breakfast, as this would fit better into my day. Is this wise? or should I least have a piece of fruit e.g. Banana before going out? Any advise about running before breakfast welcome.
Thanks

I too run first thing. When I first began running I'd have a bowl of bran flakes and milk. No good. Then I tried a banana. Bad. I now run on just two glasses of water and then half a litre of water and a banana after the run. Shower followed by my bran flakes and milk and then off to work! Happy Running and Bon Appetit
It should be just fine yes. I did it that way only moving to later in the day after I graduated. I never need breakfast but just had a couple of mouthfuls of water before I left (you know early morning mouth syndrome isn't great for running stamina!) then had breakfast as normal when I got back.
Right the way through the program the distances really are not huge and so long as you ate the day before and are generally reasonably hydrated there is no need even to carry drinks (though some like to).
I always run on an empty stomach and having graduated, I can now run for an hour after 15 minutes warm-up. I know if I ate I would be sick or have cramps, I leave it for a bit when I get home and then have a big breakfast. I would start on an empty stomach, take water with you and see how you get on. Good luck, it's a brilliant program.
I did most of the program by running early in the morning. I would eat a banana when I first got up, then get organised and dressed, then run. I always take a drink of water but that's just personal preference. Good luck !
I didnt realise there were so many of us in the before breakfast gang! I literally get up, glass of water and go. Oh and get dressed obviously! When the runs became longer I started to have half a banana before I go but I worry I'd feel sick if I ate anything else. Then lots of water and breakfast when I am back.
Love to run first thing, its done and out of the way, and make you feel fab all day!
Just wanted to underscore the importance of water before the run - I forgot to drink before leaving the house this morning and after my first 5 minute run I was uncomfortably parched in a way that I had never experienced before. Luckily there was a fountain in the park so I drank a bit from that and carried on. Hydration is all we need, but I would say that it is essential. Good luck with the plan - you'll love it.
Water & banana (get light headed otherwise), run (with water bottle because I get very hot!), back home and then shower and breakfast. In the hot weather it's the only time of day I would run as it's a little cooler.
Cup of tea, small portion Frosties, potter and organize for 30-40 mins than off. I'd keel over if I went out without eating anything. Home again for coffee - and fruit and water like Laura says
Definitely run better first thing in the morning.... but can't eat beforehand. Just need some water before I go. Good luck with the programme, I'm on week 2 so not too far ahead of you
Hi ,used to have bowl of porridge beforehand, too much, felt sick. Now just a couple of oatcakes and water half an hour before, then banana or choc milk when I get in. Only running for short time at moment tho. (Wk5) Good luck hope you enjoy it I get grumpy if I can't run now...
Hi, I've tired all sorts of variations and am now firmly in the "up, glass of water and run" camp. Had a slight lie-in this morning (it is a Bank Holiday after all), then did 10k and beat my personal best on 5k and 10k times! I am so gald my wife introduced me to this programme in February at which stage we both really struggled with the first few runs. I still can't really believe I'm now doing 10k 3 times a week.
Interesting question. I ran before breakfast yesterday (I've mostly been running mid to late morning), after having my usual glass of water first thing then a cup of tea. I ate (literally) a handful of shreddies as I didn't want to go running completely on empty and had my 500ml bottle of water to hand, as always. I managed my longest run yet (a full 5K) and didn't feel hungry at all, all day. I had a packet of crisps about 3pm when I was going out and realised I still hadn't eaten anything, some bread and cheese during my hillwalk and some proper dinner when we got home (though I'd have happily gone without, if I was on my own). It felt very strange not being hungry all day.
Has anyone else found that early morning running is a great appetite suppressant?
