W5 R1 Completed and a new discovery....

Was planning a 2 day rest but woke up yesterday feeling bleugh and stressy and stayed in bed. So after 3 guilty rest days I went out at 7.30 this morning. Why is the first minute of the first run always the hardest? Laura said it was going to get harder but that it was all in my head and she was so right. I had only just begun but was about to give up as it was too hard. I asked myself:

Are your legs jelly? No.

Are your lungs on fire? No.

Are you sweating so much you can't see? No

Are you feeling dizzy? No.

Well shut up and get on with it then. So I did.

The second 5 minute run whizzed by and when Laura said 60 seconds to go in final run the demon on shoulder said why not run, really run, the last bit. I lenghtened my stride and realised that I was actually really properly bloody running like a proper lycra clad running person. I was grinning from ear to ear, though it probaby looked more like a death grimace to anyone coming in the opposite direction, then it was cool down walk time. It felt so easy and natural for about 45 seconds, then I wanted to die.

I know that I will complete the program in my unusual jog/trot style but I also now know that I am capable of running with a beautiful elegant long stride which gives me something to work towards when I graduate (and I will graduate).

Also Laura was explaining about when she ran c25k, this got me thinking, who was Laura's Laura?

Garmin update - Its arrived! :) but its been put away til my birthday :( only a few more days to wait. As I had an extra days rest I will now be completing W5R3, the legendary 20 minutes, on my birthday which is probably the best present I can give myself.

Sazzy - how did you get on today kitten?

I do that inventory all the time, it has got me through many a tough run. Though it must be amusing watching a grown man try to kick his own arse whilst running down the high street as he realises he has answered no to all those same questions :-D

Sounds so familiar. But so true. We've got nothing to fear except giving in to what I call the little chimp on our shoulders. Don't know about everyone else, but having gone though the check list and telling the chimp tp shut up so many times, it seems to have decided to give up.

That first minute or two is still heck of a hard though! Keep up the good work.

Fantastic well done, I also give myself pretty much the same checklist and when I find nothing wrong I think, well just get on with it then! Enjoy the birthday Garmin and the 20 min run!! :)
