Experimenting after 5K

Hi - have completed the 5K target a little while ago I've been struggling to find a podcast like Laura's to coach through my next target. I've decided I'd rather work at increasing speed than distance. Looked around, not found any aids that I like. Then had brainwave - go back to Laura's week 1, and instead of walking, go at my jog pace, and when she says to run, just speed up. So it was 60 seconds of jogging, followed by minute of running faster, then slow down to a jog again and so on. Just tried that this morning, and did fairly well, but realise I have to readjust to learn to breathe better at the faster pace. So I'm going to experiment with this process until I find a combination that suits me as a starting point, and then go right through the programme again in this way. Has anyone else tried anything like this?

It sounds like a really good idea. I've not tried that myself in the past, but it sounds perfect for building strength if you don't particularly want to build distance just yet :-)

I was doing something similar but I struggled to keep constant faster pace

I've just downloaded an Audiofuel run faster programme from itunes. I went for the slowest one! I think it will help me cause you run to the beat and there are bursts of different speeds but I've not tried it yet

I'll let you know if its worth the few £ i paid for it!

I did get one of theirs, but it was TOO fast - or I jumped in too fast! But I also like the approach with the couchto5K track where you get more regular input whilst running. Thanks though, be intersting to hear how you get on

its hard isnt it! the first time I tried this I could only complete 3 or 4 of the running bits then settled on walking the walking bits & actually running (not jogging) the jogging bits. ended up looking & feeling as if I had run the full 30 mins. definately makes the longer runs easier though :)
