WELL.... HOPEFULLY YOU MAY be in the STRENGTH and FLEX FORUM!
Hello and welcome!.
I simply cannot believe how late I am getting to the Corner this week !
But, ,here I am and I hope, with some of you, in the Catch up Corner; thankfully ,here, certainly, the snow and ice have gone. It is still chilly though and running can still feel like a bit of a challenge!
But, the corner is warm, the fire is just glowing nicely and the drinks and snacks are waiting; fresh made croissant, some super teas and the coffee hot!
Slip off your shoes and grab your cushion!
OK... a new year, but an OLD post. STRENGTH and STAMINA! Yes... Man away !
As we read the posts, I, and some of the other Admins' are noticing that many, many folk here on the C25K forum and beyond, are not aware of, or have not yet, visited the STRENGTH and FLEX Forum.
We point folk in the right direction, but it may help to know that there are links once there to get you to the exercise you need.
CBDB works tirelessly, to keep the ideas flowing there, and I am fortunate enough to be there also !
As you begin to run, and when you Graduate and move onwards. the benefits that we get from supportive strength and stamina exercise, is immeasurable.
Particularly, but not solely, for runners, the support exercise, builds strength, stamina, boosts our mobility and freedom of movement, and also, can aid recover, if issues should occur! That has to be good !
On the S and F Forum... there is a HUGE amount of information and advice and help to give us all that support. It is there for ALL of us, not just new runners and many, many of us visit often.
The forum, where CBDB , myself and a whole load of other contributors, hang out, has a wealth of information for we runners.
All of us whether it is when we begin to run, or if we have been running for a while will benefit so much, from other exercise on some of our rest day. The core strength and stamina work really does make a difference .
As a result, of all this, I am shouting out this morning to some of our newer and not so new maybe, runners.
You don't have to be there all the time...just pop in and take a look.
I’ve had a look at the S&F a few times and tbqh couldn’t easily find my way around it. And anything I did find was videos I find impossible to follow whilst trying to do any exercise. Or do I mean I find it impossible to do the exercise if I’m also trying to watch a video on my iPad.
Now if I could work out how to print out a simple sheet of instructions I think I’d be better off. Time to read, reread and inwardly absorb always suited me better when I had to learn anything.
But for someone with too small a brain, and what there is, is single tracked, it was just too difficult!
I am though, always full of good intentions, so will have another look sometime.
In the meantime, a fresh croissant and hot coffee sounds lovely thanks!
I have been running occasionally, but did find the cold and ice very difficult, so had a few days off during that. I’m managing 7k at the moment and want to feel more comfortable with that distance before increasing again.
I do still keep a shorter speed run with Jo Wiley, or coach Bennett in my portfolio, but my original aim of increasing my speed is just not happening at the moment. Sigh.

This is exactly the same as me! When I had physio, I loved that because he gave me one sheet with descriptions of the exercises and another sheet with boxes to tick when I’d done them. That was the most consistent I’ve ever been with strength!!! Plus, I was highly motivated because I was wanting to start running pain free again.
I mostly prefer classes (Pilates, yoga, body pump etc) for my strength because then I’ve got an instructor telling me what to do!! I know I’m very lucky to be able to fit them in with work and life. The other good source of workouts with simple, clear exercises that can be printed is running magazines (or their websites). This is the one I’m doing at the moment when I’m working out at home…
I’ve got a physical copy of the magazine open in front of me while I do it!!
You’re doing brilliantly. Getting faster can be a frustrating goal-it’s so hard to be patient. I’ve found I seem to be stuck for ages and then suddenly there’ll be an unexpected big jump forwards. Strength really did make a big difference to me but so did running longer and building in the speedier runs you’ve been doing. You’re on the right track. Good luck to you!
