Today's do-over!!!

So after Sundays disaster I had a good think & have realised a few things.the main thing is that my body & health are compromised right now & have been for a while...there is no quick fix for this & I am currently waiting for blood tests & follow up appointments & so on...so I decided to put C25K to one side & do things a little differently. This morning I put on my running shoes & headed out without it.i decided to run for 10 minutes walk for 1 minute run for another 10 minutes walk for 1 minute then run again hopefully for another 10 minutes but if not then so be it.well I managed 3 lots of 10 minutes with just 2 x 60 second walks in between.the pressure was off & not only did I actually get it done I really enjoyed it.its the first time is have felt the buzz I always used to get when I was fit & healthy & younger.so for now I think I will continue with that 👍

Sounds like you know what you need without an app to tell you, fantastic :)

That sounds like a very sensible approach. I use C25K as a guide, but do my own thing if I feel like it. I think it’s important to listen to my body, accept that I may not progress at the same rate as the program prescribes, and above all enjoy my jogs. That’s what keeps me going back for more.

Yes exactly that 🙌 I find it hard to deviate front these kind of things but I am really glad I made this decision as I feel like I have achieve better things than if I had stuck with the programme 👍

Well done Notsonifty50 …all of this post is so positive…listening to your body and admitting that sometimes you have to make a little tweak to what you want to do & you have done just that…and the best thing is…you’re still running..& even better than that…you’re jeffing!!! That is the best thing to do, in my opinion, if you don’t want to run for too long but don’t want to give up completely…keep that up & your fitness will stay with you x

Thanks so much 🙏 I'm never going to run a 10k or take part in races...this is all for my personal benefit & I am so determined to get this sorted one way or another 💪

Exactly…these are your runs and you can run them however you like…just like I do xx

Great to read this post. Sounds like it all felt good today and how sensible to listen to your body. I think I'd enjoy myself more if I tried some more jeffing. (Thanks Mummycav for the new vocab!😆)

It honestly made such a big difference...the term jeffing always makes me giggle though 😄

I did something very similar this morning! I've rerun c25k a couple of times now, and I've learnt what I am and am not capable of.

I use the app because it helps me to follow a tried and tested plan (and it saves me from figuring out my own!), but I'm happy to tweak it to suit my particular circumstances.

Yup it's got me going under very difficult circumstances & I think it's great for people who are fit & healthy.its always been perfect for me up until now...now I just cannot do it so a couple of 60 second walking breaks are making all the difference

You sound like you've found a good approach that works for you :) The important thing is to find a way to get out and run that feels good to you. That way you will continue to do it regularly. We seldom want to repeat experiences that we find unpleasant. There is a huge psycological aspect to running, I find. Get that right, and the rest is much easier. I like the Nike Run Club approach, which is to run to an effort rather than a speed. You think of your effort on a scale of 0 to 10, 10 being the fastest that you could possibly run (like a nasty dog is chasing you), 0 is not moving at all. Most of your runs should be at an effort of around 5 on that scale, and you should set off on your run at about 3 and slowly build to 5.

That's a good idea to stick to 👍

Well done on finding a way that works for you. Listening to your body is a great way of knowing exactly what you want to achieve with out the pressure.👍👏👏
