That was hard work!!! Not been sleeping very well and I’ve woken every morning for over a week with aching head, shoulders and lower back. I’ve done my Pilates exercises, stretched, ibuprofenned myself…. Tried to walk it off, stretched before and after running…but nothing is shaking it and today was no exception. I’d laid my gear out last night and fully intended to run early.

Well having woken past 9.00, with awful reflux going on, that didn’t happen. So I stumbled downstairs in big fleece dressing gown and grabbed breakfast and coffee and water… and was immediately covered in two cats. They love a fleece dressing gown!! So I procrastinated for a couple of hours and read my Kindle.

Then I kicked my own arse and went and got my running gear on, swigged a pre run gel, set my podcast up and away I went. Week 8 first run. And although I have been managing the 25 mins runs fine, for some reason, this one seemed more daunting.

I tried reciting the mantra Slow and Steady…Slow and Steady and that helped a bit but unfortunately I’d got into the” 23 mins left🥴!!! Rather than 5 mins ticked off already 😁headspace “ and could not seem to shake it off. But on I plodded and then I got to a narrow bit of the path and several pedestrians just got in the way really slowly and I had to walk behind them and I very nearly packed up then and walked home but no!!! I kept going.

I tried a different route to my usual one thinking it might distract me and I’d suddenly thought “Oh I am halfway!! “And then realised NO it was 12.5 mins not 14!! It shouldn’t have made that much difference but I think it was psychological. I had to slow a bit then and I turned off the main drag to a little cut through and no people around and nearly cried but then the song ended and it went into the “ Julie song” and that always cheers me up and off I went with a new burst of energy and then it just seemed familiar again and I ended up running around the park to finish and ending on a high.

Home again now, showered and dressed and eaten my scrambled eggs and toast and feeling more positive. I was really hot running today too so I think it’s time to break out the short sleeves instead of rolling up the longer ones. Nice rest day tomorrow and I may run on Saturday or I might have a day out and run on Sunday. Who knows??

But NEXT run I will be more positive. I HAVE done it before and I can do it again. 🏃‍♀️💪

That sounded tough - you had a rough start to the day by the sounds of it. Apart from the cats - got to love cat cuddles!!! Good for you for getting it done though.

It’s so weird when the nerves suddenly hit like that. It happens to me a lot and it often makes no logical sense why. You battled through and that’s something to be really proud of. Hopefully your next run is a smoother one, and you can fight those gremlins off with the knowledge that you managed it today,

You did it! Huge well done... maybe time to look at a new pillow too?

It IS a new pillow especially for side sleepers but I think it’s too high. That’s 2 dif expensive ones I’ve bought now 🤬. Back to the drawing board

You had a rough day limberlou but you still managed to do your run and week 8 is underway! I’ve just finished week 8 myself (again!) - you’re right about the time seeming longer but it’s only 3 minutes and you can do that! Embrace your slow and see that finish line get closer!
