🍏A Beautiful sunshiny morning albeit with a cold wind, enticed me out for my Friday Run! I asked coach Bennett to accompany me, as I am in need of guidance to achieve my ultimate goal of an easy 10k run. I set off easily enough with the warm sun on my back, my beanie & running jacket protecting me from the wind! As I turned at the corner I realised my mistake!!

The brilliant sunshine was now in my eyes 👀! I had forgotten two things! For new runners I am sure you can easily guess at one of them… my sunglasses 😎 of course! The second one is a great tip for newbies and that is a peak hat! Great for low sunshine and essential for keeping rain off your glasses 🤓 So now my running became a trip hazard. Even gazing downwards at the uneven pavement slabs didn’t help. It was so glare I couldn’t see much at all.

So I did the right thing and went home to fetch these items. Always safety first.. the smallest hazard can put us on the injury couch so easily & we don’t want that!! My run is done✅ Enjoy yours!

I bet you enjoyed your run more because of it! Go you ❤️

My number one thing I wish I’d gone back for is a tissue…I always regret not bothering!!

🍏😊Oh yes! I wonder what others have gone back for?

Another is a head torch! I got halfway through a dusk run and realised if I wanted to make it to the end, I’d need some light. I changed my route to run past my house and pick it up.

Most of the time I wish I’d left some of my clothing behind. I’m always too hot!

Yes safety in the dark is paramount!!!

Oh yes, two essential items for running! For me there is a third - a neck buff. Keeps me warm in the winter (sometimes when it’s cold I put it over my mouth until I warm up) and stops the sweat going down my back in the summer! Which I hate 😃

I did splash out on some sports glasses a couple of years ago. They are superb - prescription varifocal and they darken in the sunlight. Because they are slightly curved they also offer protection against the wind and stop stuff blowing into my eyes. Expensive, but worth it.

I have the same goal as you - an easy 10K run! I’m not sure when mine will happen, I did get up to 7K running easy but my coach wants me to concentrate on time on my feet running even slower for a few weeks 😀 so my guess is some time towards the end of February.

Neck buff was a new term, but I see what you mean. I've added that to my thinking for summer in particular - I'm thinking as much about protection from the sun on the back of my neck as I will be running for longer!

Yes, that will help!

👍 Oh indeed a buff! I think it will be Easter before I hit 10k 🐣 hopefully before, but we will see.. You and your coach are doing well!!

Did we do the same run? It was (relatively) warm and sunny so not only did I not wear a hat but for some reason didn't tie my hair back (misguided attempt to keep my ears warm without said hat). Fine, until I realised I was running into the low morning sunshine, couldn't see a thing, hair in my eyes, internal reflections off my glasses, runny eyes, you name it!

Plus, a very soggy path and needing to look out for doggy deposits...I really should know better by now, but wasn't it lovely to be out there?

🤣👏Sounds like we did! Yes it was fab to be out there & was worth going back and then relaxing into the run. 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ Glad you avoided the doggy 💩… nothing worse than that to spoil a run!

🌞 was a treat yesterday. It’s back to rain ☔️ and wind 💨 here. However going to do a walk in a more sheltered area. Xx

That's so sensible! I did a few runs in sunglasses in the summer, though I was mainly running on cloudy days or pretty early before it became an issue. Definitely something to consider this year though!

I have never run in a hat of any sort. A peaked hat may be something to consider too, but a beanie would cause me to overheat very quickly. I find I end up with a top layer open, gloves off and tucked into belt, and sleeves rolled up by about half way through my run!

Sun visors work really well!

Oh me too! Even in -11 I only run in 2 layers!! If it’s freezing outside I do an extra warm up up inside & I am just right in two layers. Usually here in UK the jacket is unzipped or off and round my waist 🤣My husband laughs because on a walk I have a million layers🤣
