So its been a long, long drought in the running department round here....I have battled illness long, very long and very hard.......no running in the last year....

I believe I am ready to start again...again😁

Obviously I'm going to start at week one, because I just don't know whether I could do more than that, I guess we will see....

I've always struggled with mid week, post work runs, exhaustion sets in as soon as I'm home.

Any advise about what to drink/eat before I dash out. I will literally be arriving home from work tired and hungry and I know if I don't get changed straight away, and go out, I won't do it at all. So, I need a quick drink or very small snack to give me just enough of a boost to get me out there.....and have my tea after I get home?

I'm signing up for the Race for Life, I missed last year for the first time since I can remember, so I'm looking forward to that, and it gives me a little motivation to get moving.

You might have to try different foods to see what you can eat and then run.A couple of rounds of plain toast (or similar ) and some water might be a good start

Hiya Katnap! I'm actually really excited to get started again, water is always a must for me as a rule......I may risk a small banana and see what happens 😅

Welcome back! Working out what to eat before runs is tricky and often requires a bit of trial and error. If I’ve only got a short time, a pack of three nairns fruit and seed oatcakes is my usual food of choice. Toast and jam is another favourite option, and occasionally I’ll have a small banana.

Can’t wait to hear how you get on!

At last you’re here ! I love shenanigans 😂😂. Welcome back and here’s hoping you are feeling a lot better now. Anyway maybe a wee biscuit, or even a banana just to keep you going.

I run first thing and wake up hungry. I eat half a protein bar and have a cup of tea before I go out for a shuffle. It just takes the edge off before I get back for breakfast. Enjoy being back in the fray

Welcome back! I definitely re-started at Run 1, though I'd had a break of only a few months. It does come back and that first run is just SO satisfying.

Good to see you again!

Two suggestions which may or may not be possible for you:

1) Have something to eat and drink before you leave work (and bump up your lunch a bit too)

2) Wear as much as possible of your runwear to work so there is less changing to do. I never get changed to run (because I'd just have to go back to bed instead), I merely peel off the stealth layer on top and change footwear. At a minimum, your running underwear. Or perhaps if that's not an option, can you change before leaving work?

Having that specific goal you've set yourself sounds like a very helpful strategy too.

I can definitely have a snack before I leave work....I definitely can't wear my running gear at work......but potentially, I could change before driving home...🤔 interesting idea. I will keep everyone posted, and thank you all so much for still being here to encourage me!😁
