Christmas Challenge

I have set myself one specific goal for the festive season and that's to increase my mileage. So last week I walked /ran 25km. This week i'm going for the same. I've also changed my mindset to dieting. Has anyone else set themselves a Christmas Challenge with one specific goal?

I wish you good luck Orla479 for your Christmas 🤶 Challenge, so far 25K, well done, dieting up to Christmas is fine but on Christmas Day itself dieting might be more challenging. I am sure you you will complete 100 kilometers by walking and running by 25th December 🎄 🎅

Thanks very much AlMorr . I don't know if its just me but I find it really hard to exercise in the Winter. With that said though, I do have a treadmill so i literally have no excuse 😀. With regards to dieting, I used to be a calorie counter but I could never really sustain it. I've now changed my mindset to eat when i'm hungry, what i want, eat mindfully (no distractions) as I tend to eat more when i'm watching tv and I stop when my tummy is satisfied leaving food on my plate if need be. I'm finding this is really working for me so far.

Welcome to the forum Orla479 ! We’re a friendly bunch and we love talking about all things running. Where are you on your Couch to 5k journey at the moment?

We’ve got a guide the programme here with lots of helpful hints and tips. Well worth a read. Most important is keeping it slow and steady at a pace where you can talk in full sentences without gasping. Most of us go too fast!

For programme runs, we really want to encourage everyone that distance doesn’t matter-it’s all about time on your feet getting fitter and stronger. Your challenge sounds great but don’t let it put pressure on you to try to run faster to cover more distance during your runs. It’s great to have something to keep motivated with on cold and wet days. Hopefully your challenge will be really helpful to you!

Good luck and looking forward to updates! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Thank you very much MissUnderstanding for the lovely welcome. I'm walking running at the moment. I don't really feel the need to kill myself with Hiit sessions like i used to. LISS (Low Intensity Steady State) is actually really good for fat burning and much more enjoyable in my opinion. 😀

It’s great to find what works for you. Running at a comfortable pace is brilliant.

Are you still going through the programme or have you graduated now? We’ve got people at all sorts of stages here!

Hello and welcome!

As MissUnderstanding says, we are a friendly bunch here on the C25K forum... :) She has given you some great links!

Maybe take a peek at the Active 10 Forum...that is a walking forum and maybe really helpful.. lots of great ideas and challenges there too. and maybe you may get some more replies as folk there are not always doing the C25K programme as they are here:)

My only real challenge is to see if I can complete the plan by Christmas with a view to getting back to Parkrun in the new year. Good luck with your goal.

I've done it before, but it'll be a long time before I'm anywhere near my pre-covid 50km/week. Baby steps for now...
