I've always felt that running is a solitary pleasure for me and that I wouldn't enjoy running in a crowd. However, I don't like saying I don't like something without trying it, so I ran my first Parkrun yesterday. Took it easy and chattered with someone the whole way round, so definitely not out of breathe, and managed 34.12. Chuffed with that. I've never measured my distance before, only the interval timings to build up for 30 minutes when I originally started c25k, so had no idea how long 5k would take me. Very impressed with organisation and inclusiveness of parkrun and it was very friendly and welcoming. I still prefer the freedom of solitary running but I did really enjoy parkrun and will go again some weeks. If you are thinking about it and not sure, I would definitely say go for it 😊
Never say never...Parkrun: I've always felt that... - Couch to 5K
Never say never...Parkrun
Good for you Beach_runner , well done for taking that step! Sounds like it was perfect for you…they really are a nice bunch at park run
Occasional Parkrunner here, it's a lovely atmosphere, glad you enjoyed it
Solitary running is special alone time but Saturday morning parkrun is fun so best of both worlds
Well that has sealed it! I’m a solitary ( with dog) runner too but I did do virtual park run in lockdown so I am registered but I’ve never done an actual one. However Last week I sent off for my barcode tabs which I’m just waiting to arrive with the plan to do my first one this Saturday 😱 not gonna lie I’m a bit apprehensive but everyone says they’re lovely and friendly so I feel I should give it a whirl.
Good for you 👍 👏 my advice would be to make sure you run at your usual pace and not get swept along when people go faster at the start. I found I caught up with most of them anyway and was far more relaxed running at a pace I could maintain. I also got chatting to someone which helped. Good luck and enjoy 🙂
