Two reasons could cause your calf's to lock Thejogger, you are running a little too fast or you are a bit dehydrated, for your next run, drink plenty of water before you run and run a little slower than you did today, good luck.

Sorry to hear of your discomfort. In addition to being hydrated enough, what warm up exercises are you doing before you set off? It's recommended to do some 'dynamic stretches' to get the muscles working and slightly increase your heart rate runnersworld.com/health-inj.... In addition, on your non running days, do some strength exercises, which really helps. If you join the strength and flex forum here on HU you'll find lots of ideas about exercises to try.
