So, I've just completed Run 1 Week 5. My smart watch records everything, but just wondered how can I improve these stats. Will it just improve over time, the more running I do or is there anything specific I need to do !!
Thanks

Of course it will improve over time, you are doing very well indeed adnewg73
🍏 Well done 👏 Keep on with what you are doing now.. it’s great 👍 Time to worry about the stats after graduation.
At the moment it’s all about time and building stamina and enjoyment of running , not speed and distance.
Enjoy the programme, but take it gently when and if you need to,. Don’t push yourself before your body is adjusted to the new demands on it. Build up your strength by gradually increasing slow runs (and other body conditioning exercises as suggested by OldFloss and the Strength and Fkex posts. )
Hi adnewg73 , data about running can be very helpful when used appropriately. It can also become something of a dictator.
During C25K, the progress is built into the programme, which takes you from being a non-runner to being able to run for 30 minutes at an easy, comfortable pace, without stopping. That in itself is an achievement, regardless of stats.
I've been running just over three years and I have no idea what most of those "advanced running metrics" mean. I don't care either, because those metrics can't measure how much I enjoyed my run, or even how fit I am.
If you believe my Garmin, I was less fit when I completed an over-length trail marathon event than after a couple of short, easy, holiday runs. It's the way the algorithm works, and in the context of my running, it makes no sense.
C25K is designed to get you starting running. You have years and years ahead to discover how you want to run, and what, for you, constitutes improvement and running fun.
Enjoy C25K!
Firstly, well done for getting to W5; secondly, please don't get hung up on data and stats. Run for the sake of running, and not for a competition - even PRs are non-competitive for 90+% of the entrants. Just run at a speed you are comfortable with, run for enjoyment and health, and run to aim toward the 5K goal at W9... but remember, the running for 30 mins at whatever speed you do is what it is really all about. Finally - almost - remember, Roger Banister broke the 4 minute mile without any tech beyond a trackside stopwatch. We have been seduced by this gadget and that gadget to part us from our pennies - we don't need it. I believe in naked-running - no, not like that - but running without tech, and just a watch to keep track of time and nothing else. It is so liberating.
Whatever you do, keep running, keep us posted and put aside the tech and just enjoy being out in the fresh air and making the most of the wind in your hair, the sound of birds and sheer enjoyment of being able to run.
