As the proud possessor of a physics o grade, I completely grasp that pace and distance affect each other. But I’ve just completed 3:2, which should be identical to 3:1, yet Strava says I’ve done 3 minutes less today. What’s happening ?!!

Exactly what I thought ! Very short wormhole ? 😄

Are you on Strava...? In the C25K club..?

On Strava, but not in a club.

You are just trying to confuse your online friends ...blinding them with technology and figures.🤓👀 Saying that I am sure there are wizzy people out there that will help you out. 😎🤳👍

I think you’ll find it’s all in the physics..........

ButtercupKid profile image

Not really. Two identical sets of running instructions should take the same length of time to complete.

Technoglitch???

I know nothing about Strava, but I do know that when I use Mapmyrun, it occasionally has a hiccough & carves off lumps of time & distance 🙄

PS I do realise that Strava is a whole different order- but technology...

Wondering about that. My phone is elderly and not keen on cold weather, so that might be a factor ?

My phone is very elderly too, so maybe.

Temperature hadn’t occurred to me- I’ll have to track that.

I do get the same glitch each time so I wondered if there was a feeble GPS area. At the end of the day, our bodies have done the exercise & I try not to be bothered by the technology. On familiar routes I know:

“This bush is 0.5k, this tree is 1.0k etc & a watch with that is ok! 😄

I don't use Strava but presume it works the same way as Map My Run which I do use? I get small variations in my overall times because I set the program running just before I leave the house and stop it when I get back (I don't run a circuit, I go out and turn around at the half way bell). When I (rarely) do things at a consistent pace Laura (who I also starts as I leave the house) is telling me "That's it for today..." just as I get home. What is more usual for me it that I slow down my running pace towards the end, so my second 'half' takes me longer to complete, so my 5 minute cool down walk finishes well before I get home so that 'run' takes longer. Could it be something like this (but backwards)?

Not really. Variations in pace and distance happen all the time for all kinds of reasons, from the weather to your own tiredness. This is a problem with the time the actual programme takes to run, which should be the same for two identical runs.

As an engineer, I’ve thoroughly reviewed all the data and conclude it’s what’s commonly know as a TFU. The T stands for total, you’ll have to guess F and U.

A glitch, I suspect.

Love a useful piece of terminology ! Thanks 😀

First of all congratulations on that O Grade for physics, of course run 1 and 2 are the exact same so Strava is incorrect, perhaps weather conditions had a say on that different 3 minutes, the main thing was that you enjoyed the run today.

Much better weather for it !

We have had a few snow showers here in Central Scotland this morning BCK, it's only settled and lying on the hills, however, this morning I went for a walk in my walking boots along the canal bank, but suddenly remembered that I should be doing run 1 of week 2 of Ju Ju's Magic 10 which I remembered was a short 15 minutes run, the longer 39 minutes run I intend to do on Wednesday.

So I thought here and now I will do that 15 minutes run although I don't have my running shoes on, I just ran a little quicker than walking pace and finished the run as the next shower came on, I ran slowly, probably at +40 minute 5K pace, at least I can tick that run off and prepare wearing proper running gear for the 39 minutes run on Wednesday.

Well done for remembering ! Running in boots is probably good for building up leg strength 😄

Probably is but I wouldn't want to run a 5K in boots or heavens above welly boots, yuk, by the way the snow is now starting to lye and not melt, Buddy34 took a great photo of the snow earlier today.

Einstein's theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up depending on how fast you move relative to something else.

How fast were you running? 😁

Not that fast 😂😂
