Well just completed run 1 of week 3 on Monday(run 2 tonight) feeling really good, which has surprised me a bit, the runs are as i expected from when I did this a few years back, but I am using my fitbit a a guide to recovery, I think taking what it recommends-is with regard to recovery is making the difference, first two weeks there were 3 times i took an extra recovery day because of what my phone app said, and after Mondays run I was expecting the usual 'you have pushed yourself hard you need to recover' but yesterday and today my results are the complete opposite. It is saying I am well rested and recovered and can just myself a bit harder. I will not be pushing myself any harder and will carry on with the c25k program as I am. But he's anyone else used a health app/watch to monitor their recovery? I think it is looking positive from my point of view?
Fitbit stats?: Well just completed run 1 of week... - Couch to 5K
Fitbit stats?
My Garmin doesn't give that advice (Forerunner 45) but my husband has the posh one which seems to either say he's not working hard enough or needs a rest.As with any stats take with a pinch of salt. If you feel you need extra rest it certainly won't do you any harm at all. Just make sure you have at least one day of rest between runs.
Personally, if it came to a difference of opinion between an app and my body, I'd go with my body every time. But if the app is agreeing with your body, then go for it and why not?
My Garmin does tell me how well rested I am (never enough) and if today should be a rest.
I tend to listen to my body. I always take one day off after a run. If I'm feeling that I need two, I take two.
I recommend body vs app...
Funnily enough, just this morning my husband has been (ranting) complaining that his fancy Garmin watch has a totally unreliable heart rate monitor. He's been a bit suspicious of its summaries for a while, telling him he needed to work harder when he's pushed himself to the limit and vice versa. So he's checked it out and it can't be trusted. Long list of irate owners online. He's going to get himself a chest strap* monitor. So no, I wouldn't be letting an app tell me how fit I am!
*And not a cheesy steak, as my autocorrect would have it
- although personally I'd prefer the steak😁
Personally I'd pay more attention to how I felt than a Fitbit, Garmin or any other non-medical app. I don't even wear my Garmin for every run, let alone all the time, as I don't find it helpful.
