Hey all! Just got back from my first run of Wk7 and as I’m doing longer runs now I thought I’d download an app that tracks distance and speed etc. Apparently in the 37mins I was walking and running I covered 3.9km. Is that any good? I know we’re all different and it’s about stamina and not distance or speed at the mo, but just wondered if I’m on track to be able to achieve the 5k in 30 mins at some point after graduation and many consolidation runs!!

Sounds fine to me. 😃

Only a very small proportion of C25Kers do 5k in 30 mins by graduation. Later you can work on speed or distance ( not both at the same time.) After consolidating 3X 30mins a week for a few weeks, you can add on a few minutes each week until you reach 5k. You will find that you get faster even without particularly trying as you build your runner’s legs. 😄

Yes I think that will be the plan, thanks.

If you are doing the runs.. and feeling comfortable and enjoying.. that is all that is needed... :) The runs evolve and you will find the happy pace that will take you to amazing places... maybe 5K... and beyond:)

I don’t think I’ll ever be beyond 5k but it’s definitely a target, however long it takes me to get there!

Well done

A sub 30 minute 5k is a very arbitrary target that less than 15% of C25kers achieve during the plan.

The only person you need to compare yourself with is your former non running self.

Thanks, I I guess I just wanted to know if it was possible several weeks after graduation.

I've just tracked my first run today at W7R2. 2.91k just for the running part. However, I'd agree with everyone else... don't focus on distance or pace for now. I'm running at the speed I feel comfortable at and then just noting the results. Will be interesting to see what happens as I progress through the plan and into consolidation. :)

Do you have a consolidation plan yet or is it a bit early to be thinking about it?!

I have absolutely got a consolidation plan that then leads into bridge 2 10k and a 10k "race" in September (happy to just get around!). Then I'm running around the Great Orme in late September, which is under 10k but hilly. (I'm allowed a cup of tea in the cafe half way if I'm not capable of the whole thing at that point). I've even got a target weight for each week until then!

After that it's to come up with a doable winter plan to get me over the dark days and into next year. People laugh at me because I have an excel spreadsheet for everything!

Wow that is organised! Good for you, good luck with it all! I don’t think my targets will be anything like that ambitious! I have CFS so managing to graduate will be my biggest achievement! I would like to do a park run though at some point, so will see how realistic that is if I graduate!

Thank you. I've no idea how realistic these goals are for me... until New Year the only sport I was good at was competitive drinking! And chip guzzling! :) Good luck with yours too... I guess we all have to keep in mind that the ultimate goal is to run 3 times a week, however slowly. Anything beyond that is a bonus!
