First run of week 8 and first 28 minute run. As I am currently in Saddleworth near Oldham, I realised that there are very few places that are 2 miles of flat around here so I thought my best bet was to drive to the beautiful Dovestones reservoir. Its very different from my usual location, ground is country track style. Its pretty flat all the way round except for a couple of bits so suited me well. It was a delightful run, a sunny morning and not too hot with a cooling breeze up the valley. I thought I'm not too sure how long the route is but I'll start off and see how far round I get.
As it turned out I ran pretty much all the way round! Just nearing the car park when Laura told me to do my 5 minute warm down. Measuring it afterwards i ran about 2.5 miles.
For this early fifties, very obese bloke (I need to lose 5 stone) it was a revelation.
It's pretty much the same distance as I have been going in the last few runs but you dont always realise actually how far that is. Seeing the path in the distance on the other side of the water and running all the way round to that point was a great feeling as well.
Anyway I hope this post inspires someone to keep on keeping on. It is definitely worth it, and I guess is an example of how changing your route can also give a fresh perspective on how far you have come.
