I need tips to keep running

SouthlondonRanger profile image

completed couch to 5k last week. Went for my first run yesterday without the motivation of completing the program.

It would be great to hear about what other people have done to stay motivated and keep on running three times a week.

Great timing! We’ve just restarted our Graduates’ Club thread where people are sharing what sorts of runs they’re doing and there’s a weekly challenge. Come and say hi!

Well done on prioritising your health, not easy as a parent. Put running kit out near bed night before - helps give a visual reminder to cue the running habit. 😀

Rearrange your life so that Saturday morning is fee and do a Parkrun every week. You might meet people from a local running club. You're bound to meet people new to running.

I’ve joined my local running club 🤞

Try Nike Running Club, lots of free coached runs. This app on my phone has kept me running for the last 4 years.

I understand your worry, I don't know if I'll ever be a duracell bunny that can't stop running!! But the fear of losing all the hard earned fitness keeps me going out as often as possible. Now that you are free of the C25k timetable, you should mix it up a bit. A local parkrun on a Saturday morning and some forest/ trail running for a change of scenery and terrain. The uneven surfaces on the trails are a workout and makes you stronger. The roads are your oyster

Consider entering yourself into a 10k around Xmas time eg. Santa dash. Often these are basically fun events so you can keep building on your new abilities without the pressure to 'perform'.

After C25K I found just increasing the running time by 2 or 3 minutes for each week was easy and steady enough to keep progressing.

Happy running and congratulations on graduating C25K!
