Running and obesity - update- part one! 🏃‍♀️

In October 2022, I posted about how my obesity was holding me back from improving my running. I received many lovely helpful replies and I promised I would update.

Well, its a tale of two halves. I've not run at all in 2023 due to an ongoing injury, BUT, I have got my BMI down from 35 to 29. I am no longer obese, I am overweight!! 😁 I'm excited to keep going and get into the normal BMI category and looking forward to one day graduating again, once I get the ok from the physio.

I've tagged everyone below, who replied to the original post as I want to thank you all for your support. It meant the world to me. Sadly, I can't thank @IannodaTruffe, RIP, but I hope he would have been pleased.

I'll do a part two update once I hit normal BMI. 👍 THANKYOU EVERYONE!! 💐

This is such GREAT news... really well done on getting that BMI down!! You should feel so pleased with yourself.

Do you feel better and healthier within yourself?

How soon before you get an all clear to go again? Have you got a time frame... ?

Gosh, all these questions... I am so excited for you !!!

The great news is, when you are ready, the runs will be waiting and we will be here too! Please do keep us posted x

PS

Tim would be pleased.., he still hovers around here and he comes with me on many a run chuntering at me...in the nicest possible way x

Aah Oldfloss , you made me teary - delighted to hear Tim accompanies you from time to time. ❤️ I feel and look so much better thank you.

It's likely I will heal before I hit normal BMI. However, I am very reluctant to run while still significantly overweight. I hate to admit it, but I think my obesity caused the injury. No concrete timeframe as yet, but perhaps autumn? 😀 Perhaps I'll feel ok about running at around a BMI of 26-27?

Thank you SO much for your interest and support. This community is just the best. 🏅x

I think that sounds very promising... I am trying hard to get my BMI up a tad... it is hard too!

Autumn will be a lovely time to begin again too. It is my favourite time of the year... the balmy end of Summer days and the lovely golden mornings as Nature's colour palette changes. I shall be hoping that everything works out for you with that goal :)

It really is a super community... as are all the forums. All of us supporting each other in running and in friendship.

That’s great news.. I think it’s probably harder to lose weight and then achieve a steady weight, than to learn to run regularly and then keep on running.. I hope your injury will resolve soon, so that you can do both. Keep us posted. 😊

What an amazing achievement! Well done you. I know from my own weight loss journey it’s hard work, and even more so during periods you can’t exercise as you would wish to. Good luck with the injury and hope you get back pounding the pavements soon 😊👍🏻

well done - it’s great to see such a positive post.

I really hope you manage to get running soon too, just a gentle slow jog for the first few weeks of the C25K plan made all the difference for me in many ways and I definitely lost weight through it also.

Looking forward to your next instalment

Great news getting your BMI down and here's hoping a speedy return to running.I've always struggled with my weight, I was the fat kid that, well, stayed fat.

Huge congratulations! I know from experience that it's a great feeling. I wouldn't get too obsessed with that BMI thing and go with what your happy with. I am now running for 2 years and I just did the BMI test one the NHS site and it said I could lose 4.9kg! I've actually put on about 3kg since I've been running and people said I looked too skinny when I was at 95kg. My excuse is that I have a big frame and carry it well 😄😄.

Keep it up and feel good about yourself and your fantastic achievement so far.

Thank you so much! That is great advice. I think I am a teeny bit preoccupied with BMI 😁 Great to hear your experiences with it. 👍
