5k + opera = goals!

so after graduating a couple of months ago iv realy been struggling to increase my distance. After 25 mins I’m always blowing out me arse and that magic (30mins) or 5k always seemed out of reach. However I wasn’t about to give up after coming so far so decided to rethink my tactics. My main problem was my pace was too fast in the 1st half of my run and I therefore struggled into the back half. My Eureka moment came when I decided on a whim to change my playlist - swapping my usual hardcore dance/rave music to classical opera! And wow, what a difference it has made in the last week or so. My pace had slowed right down due to the gentler notes and today I ran my 5k in 36 mins - a personal best in distance and time. And another plus point is iv discovered a whole new genre of music that up until now was never in my musical radar! If there’s anyone out there struggling to keep going after graduation try listening to something with fewer beats! 😀🏃🏽‍♀️🏆

brilliant Lozza52 i can just imagine you running along to Pavarotti!! Whatever works for you!!! I listen to true crime podcasts which isn’t a great idea as a lone runner when it’s dark!!! 🫣

Well done to you Lozza52 on your 5K run in 36 minutes, nice that you have changed the genre of music you listen to, yes opera is good, I have a few suggestions, listen to the music of Richard Wagner while running, especially his Ride of the Valkyries or his emotive Tristan und Isolde vorspiel und liebestod, also try a little ballet music like Delibes Sylvia, you will get that music on Spotify.

ooh I definitely will - didn’t realise how inspiring and uplifting opera music sounded- always thought it was for snobby old cruddies - but hey I’m 52 so perhaps it is! 🤣🤣🤣

Or you could listen on the radio to Radio 3, Classic FM or Scala Radio for non pop music.

🤣🤣🤣

Love that!

I do love running to music, but the speed of the beat makes a huge difference in my running. So I now have Spotify playlists with different beats per minute.

Wow what a great story! I will try this as this is kind of where I feel I am. Congratulations 🎊

This is great! It’s amazing how music can have such a big effect on our runs. I’ve had to keep my favourite drum and bass or dance for quicker runs I’m doing post graduation. I did today’s effort to a cheesy boy band/girl band pacesetter mix which was a fun change. Perhaps inspired by you, I’ll dig out some classical for the next run.

Congratulations on that PB! It’s a really special achievement to hit 5k for the first time. Hope you’ve done some serious celebrating of that milestone 🏃‍♀️🏅🎉❤️💪
