Should I restart

Hey Everyone

So I completed Couch to 5k last year.

I'm thinking about doing it again, I've got a friend that has offered to do it with me (he is a runner and had a triple bypass age 20 so he knows what it's like)

Should I try running today or wait until I speak to rehab and they say it's okay

Hi Valentina, I don't really know what's involved with that, but I would check with rehab before increasing any exercise to a level more strenuous than you do in rehab. They might say it's totally fine, but always good to check first to be on the safe side.

Hi V

Great to see you here, rather than on the other group ! 😊

And so good to know you are wanting to restart !

I would definitely get the ok from your rehab team first, I would imagine they will want you to have been doing 30 minute brisk walks first so I'd certainly get the go ahead from them 🤞

Too much drama on the other page, plus I'd be sent a warning for posting this there as it's "Off Topic"

Have you had any conversations with rehab about what sort of exercise they’re happy for you to do? I’d be erring on the side of caution and checking first. It’s probably only going to be a little while until you’ve got the go ahead and it’s usually better safe than sorry,

It’s great you’ve got someone to run with. Hopefully you will be a great encouragement to each other!

Just walking at the moment, but when I do run at rehab I'm running for a good 5 minutes.

I've not spoken with Cardiac Rehab team yet as I've just been floating the idea with this friend via text

Yes, l agree with the drama. Great shame, but good to have some peace and not be put under any pressure. Pleased to hear that you are planning your next step and with a partner in crime! However, don’t get caught in the trap of doing too much, too soon otherwise you don’t get anywhere. Moderation and little by little, but most important the advice from the re-hab. team. They will know what you are now capable of. Hope it all goes well. If it does, have fun.

Good Morning on the Other Side

How lovely to have a potential running partner who understands /knows your situation so well.

I do really admire you and your courage and determination -but please don’t overstretch yourself too soon and set yourself back.

When you have the ok from rehab or your Dr then yes, the C25k programme would appear to be ideal for you to ease your way back. Maybe jiggle it so that the walking/running stage builds up more gradually so you don’t over challenge yourself ?

In the meantime walking in a c25k way ie briskly for gradually longer segments with recovery slower walks for a total of 30mins could be the way to prepare? Again with the proviso that this is in line with the medical advice.(I’m remembering we encouraged you to walk the park run and it was probably too early a stage in your rehab so I am feeling very cautious as to what I say)

Good luck and well done you for your positive spirit! Xx
