Some advice needed

I gave birth to my second son almost four months ago and decided to start C25K a few weeks ago to get more fit and healthy. I completed week 3 run 1 yesterday but since my first week 2 run I have been experiencing pain in my ankles. The pain is not too bad but is definitely there and it is more noticeable after my run yesterday. Admittedly I was using my standard trainers but yesterday I invested in proper running trainers which will hopefully help going forward.

My question is should I continue with my planned run tomorrow (I have been having two days of rest between each run to try and minimise aches and pains) or should I wait until my ankle pain is completely away before running again?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Well done on getting this far! I would give it at least another day and see how you feel. It may be that you need to do some strengthening exercises for your ankles to help your body adjust.

Have you read the guide to the programme? So much useful info! healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Thank you for your reply.

I have read the guide but only a few days ago. Very useful and lots of good advice.

I will look into some exercises to strengthen my ankles. I can remember spraining my ankles a lot when I was growing up so this may be contributing to my issues.

I will wait a couple of days and see how they are before my next run.

A simple and easy way to help build strong ankles is to chose to walk on grassy verges/surfaces when you're out and about in general. Because they're not as flat as pavements they'll give your ankles a little workout without being too severe.

Please don't do this running though until you have more confidence in them.

Thank you. I have been trying to do extra walking on my rest days so I will give that a go.

Not what you're looking for?
