Hey all hope your all still running I have not posted much lately. I completed C25K again in January 23 for second time and joined a running club after 4 years of running on own. Did around 10 weeks of running twice a week with the group very social just doing steady 5k’s after around six weeks started to get cramp in left calf. So doctors as it seemed to go on too long had blood tests then ultrasounds as they were worried about clots. There were none but the pain still persists so saw a sports physio who said from his tests, the pain described and his examination he believes it’s a torn calf muscle. So wants further investigation to confirm it. Thank goodness for medical insurance I hope. No running here for the foreseeable future. Any one had a torn calf muscle and what length of recovery time was there?

Oh dear! I haven't had any experience of this, but I hope it heals soon.
Oh no! So sorry to hear this. Really glad you’ve got some professionals looking after you. I’ve no experience this area but just wishing you well.
No experience here, but hope you heal quickly. 🩹
Strains, sprains, tears... They all hurt and require rest to recover.Hopefully you can still get out and about with walks in the meantime.
Fingers crossed for a good you!

Tore mine badly in dance class around a bit before the start of the pandemic. Couldn't walk for a month, then lockdown hit so it didn't matter. Wasn't back to full strength for 6 months, took almost a year to recover fully. Stay off it early and do what the physio says - I made the mistake of stretching/massage and did more damage.
Oh my goodness... I have had a minor calf tear, and with the care of a sports physio it sorted out. I have been trying to find the time frame for getting back to the runs, but still looking... ! I can only find my return to run post!

your second article when you did it certainly resonants with me. The pain experienced when I did it I was not even on a run, I had just speeded up to get to my vehicle as I was late for an appointment then ping felt like a rubber band breaking, no swelling just awful pain could barely stand on it let alone walk now a week later stairs are still an issue twisting too sudden let’s you know you have an injury. Will see how we go two physio appointments down along with £155 thank goodness for medical insurance for the consultant as that’s almost double what’s been paid already. Well we will take it slowly no other way really.
Hi Papillon17.
I tore my calf muscle 4 weeks ago. Saw my sports physio who confirmed it was a grade 1 tear, apparently the best type to have 😳. Following his instructions and set exercises I am still slowly building up . Currently at around 6-7km three times a week. Have been advised to go very slow ( is there any other speed?) and increase by no more than 10% per week! He is insisting that I have at least two rest days and limit the amount of impact exercise to running. Am sticking to Pilates and Yoga aside from this.
I have to emphasise that these instructions are personal and they not be suitable for anyone else.
I was gutted to have to stop but am being sensible as I don’t want to risk any further injury.
Hope you are sorted out soon. 🏃♀️☘️
Hi Papillon
What a pain literally. It’s always the same, nice routine going, enjoying the landscape and BOOM , body says no.
I messed up my facet joints by running 5k after not running for a couple of months. Also strained hip flexor but no tear. Inflammation of Facet joints took 3 months and hip flexor the same. No tear though.
The mistake I made was to do nothing so my fitness declined at an alarming rate.. ask your physio what you can do to maintain fitness. Pilates and yoga are excellent as is swimming.
Good luck and get well soon
So sorry to hear Papillon and it sounds really painful, speedy recovery!
