I was so proud of myself to finish C25K and continued a couple of weeks of consolidation runs. Then out walking my dog and Sunday I fell and broke my arm badly- no more running for the foreseeable and I’m gutted 😭. My question is, when I can start again in a couple of months or so, should I start at the beginning of C25K again? Just so gutted that all that hard work went to waste!
broken arm! : I was so proud of myself to finish... - Couch to 5K
broken arm!
There are some of us here who wouldn't let a broken arm put us off running. 🤣
But seriously, as you'll be less active for a few weeks, you will lose a bit of form. If you're able to keep active in other ways that will help. Something as simple as walking for half an hour every few days will keep things moving.
And when you resume running, you can probably skip the first couple of weeks of C25K. The sessions in week 3 are a good first test. If they feel easy, move on to week 4: that'll feel much harder.
It really depends on how long you're "resting" and how active you are during that period.
What awful bad luck 🙁 Get well soon 💐
thank you. It looks like an op on Christmas Eve for plates and pins!
Oh goodness me, 😱 a Christmas Eve 'op!! 🙈 put the dinner foodstuff in the freezer and celebrate when you get out 😘
Two years ago I was right where you are, but with a broken elbow in 3 places, now pinned. Earlier in that year I broke my wrist and had got back into running C25K doing to early runs to get my confidence back. Concentrating on my breathing and posture (and where I was putting my feet). The second break knocked me for 6 and my family and doctor really advised no more running outside so I had an indoor treadmill next to the sofa. It's not the same. But I had to take stock to say I am more than a runner. What you learned about yourself in C25K carries on to other forms of exercise. Whichever option back outdoors or treadmill...good luck with the operation ...take real good care of your bones. Thinking of you.
oh my goodness Nilsam that was bad luck! I will be very wary of falling when I get back to it for sure. You’re right about the mentality of. C25K. Thank you for sharing your experiences, it’s nice to know someone else has been here and got through it!
get well soon, try and walk when you can and then get back to it when you are up to it. I’ve stopped and started C25K, so it’s nice to have the challenge again, don’t get down about it though. Have a lovely Christmas
Such bad luck Redbook5, wishing you a speedy recovery and the best Christmas 🤶
Oh gosh. That is really horrible.
Heal well... really well and when you get the go ahead to run again... yes, do it again ! It is great fun and nothing at all you have achieved goes to waste ...
It is great fun, you know what is come and there is absolutely no pressure. After any time off of any length and major trauma... it is a super way to move back and use all those skills you know you have !
Loads of us have done it... some of us more than once.. ( me included). It will always be may advice... because certainly for me it works .
PS
I hope this Christmas will be as enjoyable as possible for you... I had an early present, of Covid on Monday... so I will be a while moving forward again, at some point next year x
thank you Oldfloss for your advice. You’re right, it is fun and something to look forward to in spring 😊
So sorry to hear that, very bad luck. I have just started running again after injury and went back to week 4 which I managed quite comfortably. So when you can run again you probably don't need to go back to the very beginning but will just have to build your confidence again.
Sending masses of sympathy and good wishes your way. I’ve had an injury for a couple of weeks (nowhere near as bad as yours) and it’s been hard to deal with wanting to run but not being able to. I totally agree with keeping active in other ways if you’re able to.
You’ll come back and it might be frustrating at first (certainly was for me today!), you’ll get there. Even though you might have lost some fitness, it will build again and you’ll still have all the experience and knowledge from those runs you’ve done already. That’s a big advantage.
Look after yourself ❤️
