Am I Being Foolish

Hi all, I'm doing 9/1 tomorrow. I would like to do my first Parkrun with my daughter who has supported me. But we could only do it this Saturday, which would be 9/2 or we can't do it until mid November. Would I be foolish running it Saturday or should I bide my time? TIA

Go for it...warm up well...and take it slow and steady...don't be tempted to move too quickly..

Just , your pace...run...enjoy

Congratulations on almost completing C25K, if you wish you can do run 2 of week 9 this Saturday at parkrun, however, after the 30 minute run walk the rest of the way to the end of the parkrun.

This FAQ Post gives our recommendation about parkrun and some extra advice healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Just do your W9R2, then walk the remainder as your cool down.

You will still set a time that you can chip away at in months to come.

Have fun.

Lots of people do C25K during Parkrun. One tip: don’t obstruct runners during your first five minute brisk walk! Good luck 🤞

I would just go for it, last Saturday I did w9 r3 at Parkrun. I work alternate Saturdays so just wanted to fit it in with other commitments ( about my 3/4th time of graduating 🙄) I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to keep going but it was okay….. I wasn’t much in front of the tailwalker but it was a very good feeling to have done it again. You can do your warm up walk when it starts then just walk again after you’ve done your 30 min run, lots of people walking , they’re really trying to encourage more walkers during October. Or……if you get a burst of energy you can carry on running, slowly . As oldfloss says, slow and steady…. Or in my case slow, slower, slowest! You’ll get there, a big well done 👏 for getting this far. Let us know how you get on . 😀

i agree with everyone else - do it! Parkrun isn't just about running flat out. There will be lots of walkers, walk/runners, joggers and a few speedy gonzales up front. Enjoy!

Although I've never done parkrun OldManRunning , I quite often did extended cooldown walks during C25K, simply because my routes finished further from home than I'd expected!

So I agree with the others who've said do your normal 5-minute warm-up walk, then your 30 minute run, then walk the rest to complete the route.

Don't forget that graduating from C25K marks just the start of your running - you'll have loads of opportunities to run 5K in the future, at parkrun or elsewhere!

One final thing - if you're used to running alone it's very easy to get carried away by others' pace when you're in a group. Don't! I've only ever run with others twice, both times in events. In the first one I went off way too fast and later found myself having to walk hills that normally I'd have run with ease. i didn't make the same mistake twice. Have fun!

Cmoi and the other posters have summed it up nicely! Put yourself to the back at the start. That stops you from 1. getting in the way of the fast runners - and 2. trying to keep up with them!

I'm not sure if I've interpreted your post correctly but it sounds like you mean running W9R1 and W9R2 on consecutive days? Absolutely nothing wrong with doing a Parkrun before graduating as long as you take it steady, but I would leave out today's run (if it's not too late, sorry only just seen this!) and just do your W9R1 tomorrow at Parkrun.

Sorry Liono it wasn't consecutive. I ran Thursday morning. I've put it off til 19/11 now as I realised after I posted I'm out socialising tonight (Friday) so I won't be making the mistake of running after socialising again. I know now, thanks to the advice I can incorporate a parkrun into the C25k but I wanted to do my first one with her, which I will now but at a later date as a consolidation run 😁, provided I get through the next 2 😂
