Does anyone else suffer from a runny nose when running? For me it has happenned on all of the runs I have done on the C25K plan. All of them have been outside in the early morning. As soon as I am back inside, the sniffles stop. Is it something to do with cool air meeting warm nostrils? My runny nose makes relaxed breathing difficult while running. I have just finished W9R3 (yay!), yet I still haven't been able to master the in-through-the-nose and out-through-the-mouth breathing recommended by Laura in the first couple of podcasts. Any suggestions?

Sniffy nose
Welcome to the forum and many congratulations on your graduation, fellow runner.
Perhaps your runny nose is just the way your body responds to exercise.

Keep running, keep smiling.
Congratulations on your graduation! .😁👍🎉🎉🎉I have awarded your badge !
I'm sure Mummycav won't mind me sneeking another badge out before I hand over the keys to the treasure chest !
And to answer your question yes !
I do get a runny nose when I run most times .
I have sinus problems so for me it's actually a great relief 😁
And suggestions for the breathing technique ? Yes, forget it 😁
Just breathe however is natural for you !
There are cycling gloves you can get which have a handy bit of terry cloth on them for wiping (I have some from Polaris)
Congratulations on finishing!! 🥳🕺🏼I get this when riding and it’s really annoying. I think it’s my sinuses; I’ve always had issues and it all gets a bit explosive when I exercise. I just keep a tissue in my pocket but someone else has mentioned a glove which would be much easier and less distracting. I also don’t worry about the breathing thing - I just try to slow it a little.
Well done on your graduation!I am part of the snuffley nosed running club, especially if it's a little windy, then my eyes start to run too-so elegant!! I have a couple of cheap handkerchiefs which I keep with my kit and bung on the wash with my running kit-I found tissues got soggy in the rain and got fed up with the forgotten ones disintegrating in my kit pockets in the wash!!
Happy running fellow snuffler, I hope it doesn't put you off.You are a real runner now!!!!!!
I too suffer from this but just put a couple of tissues in the waist band of my shorts/leggings.
Yes, I have been carrying tissues, but I find they disturb me. You sound very sanguine about it. I probably sound idiotic, but I prefer not to have to think about where are my tissues? Have I dropped them? It adds unwanted worries. Plus, I like to open my palms and waggle my fingers while running, to relax, rather than clutch onto tissues. Thank you for considering this dilemma.
Congratulations on completing ct5k! 🏁 Can’t help on the runny nose but wanted to say well done! 👏🏻
I find my nose dribbles a bit on cool weather runs, leading to a damp upper lip. This doesn't seem to be related to my sinuses. You're not alone.
Congratulations on graduating! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
My left nostril runs like a tap especially in colder weather! I’ve even had to blow my nose on my sleeve to the disgust of passers by 🤣.
Thank you. Yes, cold temperature exacerbates it. I've just done my first ever Park Run on a very warm morning, three hours later than when I usually run, and my nose thing was not problematic at all. But the heat was hard! Still, I made it. 5 km, running all the way!
That’s brilliant, well done 👏🏼. I keep meaning to do a park run but it hasn’t happened yet 😁.
Do you have a ParkRun near you? I'm so lucky to have three nearby to choose from. I found it exciting - there were about 350 runners in the park today and there was a happy vibe about it. I don’t have a competitive bone in my body - the thought of racing gives me the heebee geebies. I did it because I wanted to know if I actually run 5 km when I run for 30 minutes. Sure, I had an approximate idea, by measuring my routes on Google Maps (right click, measure distance), but the ParkRuns are accurately measured and timed. It turned out that I ran the 5 km in 30 min 49 s. Not bad! So now I have a mini personal goal to motivate me after graduating from c25k. I will work towards a 30 min 5 km. I'll aim to do a ParkRun every month or so, to see if I am gradually improving my fitness. It was fun and really well organised. I recommend trying it out.
Well done on completing C25K RollingPea ! You can safely ignore all the in-through-nose-out-through-mouth stuff; it's not worth wasting time or energy on if it doesn't suit you.
As for sniffling, that's easily sorted by keeping tissues or a hanky, whichever you prefer, in a convenient pocket or belt or waistband.
Hello! Congrats on graduating! I’m a fellow sniffer, all year round. To be honest, I just use my hand (is that gross?) or my baggy running top. I’m a sweaty, snotty mess about 5 mins into a run and I’ve learnt to embrace it. A bit like camping at a festival! As for breathing, like others have said, just breathe in whichever way is most comfortable for you. I’m a mouth breather and after a while I just get into a rhythm and it all calms down. Good luck and (as it’s Strictly season soon) keeeeep running!
You are already aiming for sub 30 minutes 5K. That's fantastic. I am still aiming for sub 40 after 2 years. This may be due to my biscuit addiction or possibly the pockets full of tissues for my dribbly nose. In the winter I need more pockets!
First, congratulations to you on being a runner for 2 years. I hope I will be that 2 years from now. Second, I wouldn't say I have set myself a sub 30 goal. I think that would be heading into over-confidence territory, which I am keen to avoid after all the excellent advice I have read on this forum. Actually, my goal is to stay about where I am now time-wise. I commute to work by bicycle, so I already had a basic level of fitness before C25K. But I would like to be able to run 5 K more comfortably, so I need to clock up the kilometers. That means continuing to run regularly post-graduation and staying injury-free. Like you have done.
