W3R1 mixed feelings...

Feeling good that I managed the first run of week 3 today.

The first 3 minutes run seemed a long time and I was glad when the voice in my ear said I was half way through 😉

The bad news is that the scales are obstinately sticking at where they are.🤔

I know C25K is about building up fitness and stamina but I was really hoping to shed a few pounds along the way!

Congratulations on the successful run. I’d try and separate your running journey and your weight loss journey. C25k is brilliant for fitness and health, but the runs really aren’t long enough to be burning significant amounts of calories. It’s best to focus on what you’re eating to lose weight rather than exercising.

Good luck for both the c25k and your weight loss.

Thank you for your reply MissUnderstanding. It's not the best news for me to hear but I know you're right, of course. I've already cut out the biscuits, cakes and puds, so I guess the next move is to cut out the 🍷...🤭

If you use a tape measure, rather than scales, you will almost certainly see yourself toning up and you will undoubtedly become fitter.

Weight loss is about having a calorie deficit and as far as running is concerned, you are unlikely to see weight loss until you are running for over an hour on a regular basis.

This article might explain the reasons why the weight is not shifting. anitabean.co.uk/https-anita...

Don't be despondent. You are doing one of the very best things you can to maintain your health and reduce your risk of many conditions associated with lack of exercise.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Thank you IannodaTruffe. 😊 That is very encouraging. I think I have noticed a difference in the waist and thighs but I am so used to stepping on the dreaded scales for confirmation of any improvement. Thank you again for your encouragement, I feel so much happier now 😊

Great job on the run. 3 minutes is a long time.

Scales are often the thing that steals the joy for people on a fitness journey… I recalibrated mine by tapping them with my sledgehammer in the garden… an excellent upper body workout and now they can no longer steal any of my happiness. The above mentioned tape measure is my mate though. My waist maxed at a 42” pair of jeans not going on… now 32s fit me nicely. Some of this was done before running but continued nicely, and all the other bits of me I didn’t really like have changed shape too… still a little of a belly but I paid for that.

Hi Reluctant57 I am just 1 week ahead of you and agree with MissUnderdtanding I too have not see the scales move much to my disappointment but I feel sooo much better. I am now tracking my diet on myfitness pal and that is starting to help educate me on the calories! Stay positive and it will all work out👍

I think most of what I was going to say has been covered already!

Defo forget the scales and get the tape measure out! I find it useful to measure on the 1st of the month…more frequently and it’s hard to see a difference.

Have you joined any weight loss/healthy eating groups here on HU…you will that more useful in regards to losing weight…

I was an active member on the forum below when I was actively losing weight (before I started running), it’s very supportive!
