I could have a conversation whilst running

This morning I met up with a friend who completed ct5k 5 years ago and has been running ever since, we did a park run route (I’ve registered for this now) and I warned her as a lone runner I’ve never talked and wasn’t sure if I could. Wow, where did the time go? I was having a conversation (breathing a bit heavily) and ran without thinking of my breathing, pace etc (all things I think about when I’m alone) and the time and distance flew by. ☺️ I feel on a high that I can run with someone and feel ready for my first official park run soon 🏃🏽‍♀️ Love this programme for giving me these amazing feelings! 🤗

That sounds like such a lovely run. It sounds like you’re having a great time consolidating. Are you starting to think about what’s next or just enjoying?

Have a fantastic time at your park run. Take care not to get too carried away and run too fast or for too long-that’s so easy to do! Great idea to have a go at the route in advance.

Thanks I loved it. I’m just enjoying consolidating for now, park run in a couple of weeks so got that to look forward to. I’ve heard/read about a few people who got caught up in the starter momentum of a park run and got breathless quickly so I’m definitely planning on staying at the back and just doing my usual slow pace 👍🏻🤗

Brilliant! I did my first race a few weeks ago and couldn’t walk for a week after!!! I know parkrun isn’t a race but I can easily see how people could feel like it is. Have a great time and can’t wait to hear all about it.

Oh well done, was it faster and further than you normally run? Did you get a nice medal? Thanks I’m looking forward to it (it’s a big one with between 350-500 people each week) so I’ll stay near the back and plod 😉

I did get a shiny medal! Interestingly, I didn’t beat my 10k time on race day but there’s a huge hill and discounting that part, I was on for quite a big PB. It was also a bit unfortunate that I’d been on holiday and been ill so I’d hardly run during the fortnight before the race. I think that’s why I was so stiff after! I was aiming to finish having run most of it so I was really pleased with what I ended up with. I’ve booked another flatter 10k at the end of August so hopefully will set a good time there (weather permitting).

It’s a great plan to stay near the back. The good thing about a big parkrun is there’ll be a massive range of finishing times so you won’t be alone there.

Oh fab 🏅 that’s the thing, health and life get in the way sometimes but the main thing is getting back out there. It’s good to have something to work towards so good luck with your next race. I’ve heard that my local park run has a group which meets for a 5k run every Wednesday evening so im going to give that a go too, I need to have something in place for winter time when it gets dark early as I’m afraid of being out alone in the dark so will be good to run with a group 👍🏻

Well done, doesn't it make you feel great when a run goes so well? Good luck with the Parkrun I haven't taken that step yet but soon, maybe 😊

How lovely to run with a friend! I've only run once with my daughter and found it rather distracting but still enjoyable. Looking forward to hearing all about that Parkrun 🙂

It was really nice - I’ve always felt I would hold people back by running slowly but she showed me her pace on Strava and we were very similar so I didn’t feel too bad, but she told me about so many clubs and runs available once I build my confidence up so it was great. I’ve asked my son to run with me - he declined 🤣

I will post if I manage to get there and have a go 👍🏻

I love that this is a solo sport; I love the headspace that I get being out in nature all by myself. I love the ever changing scenery and sounds that nature brings me. By far my favourite runs though are the occasional one with a friend, having a good natter on the way round the course. I’d hate doing it daily, but it’s so much better than speaking on the phone! I just have to convince my dad that he needs to run 🤣

Very well done… your increased fitness levels are unarguably proven by these runs.

Totally agree - I like my own company and sometimes just deciding last minute that I’m going for a run (words I never thought I’d say) it’s quite liberating.I did really enjoy the natter with my friend on our run and the coffee afterwards too 🤗
