I have one run left in Couch to 5K and after I graduate I plan to go to the local parkrun. At the moment I know I can’t run the full 5K but am getting closer. I would run 30 mins and then walk the rest.
Anyway my question is how does everyone manage to go for tea and cake (or whatever) afterwards, as I see in many descriptions? The minute I stop I go red and break out in copious sweat and have to dive in the shower! This doesn’t seem conducive to a nice chat and slice of Victoria sponge! Is it just the elites who can do this? I am not even sure how I will cycle home!!

Congratulations to you Birdsong22 on almost completing C25K, good luck for your graduation run.By all means register for parkrun, yes there are many people who after parkrun go to the nearest restaurant or cafe and have a coffee and cake, although I have noticed that the majority of runner's just go home after they run, however, if you wish to go to a cafe take a short rest after the run, walk slowly to the cafe, by which time your redness and sweat will be far less than when you have finished your run, once again I wish you luck for your graduation run.
Ha ha, I've always wondered the same. It's not really conducive to socialising with new people is it?! Not how one usually presents oneself! 😂 I guess everyone is the same so it doesn't matter?!
Hi there. I really don’t think all that many parkrunners go for coffee and cake! It’s a standard invitation and appears on the info for all parkrun locations as far as I can tell. Parkrun is still great though. Good luck!
Hi, well done on getting to your final run 👏🏻I know what you mean about sitting round all hot and bothered - I recently wrote a post on becoming a beetroot whilst I run, I notice many other non beetroot runners on my runs so why do I continue to stay this lovely shade for a couple of hours? 🥵 😂 I would not be sitting drinking coffee and eating cake - I need a shower asap and a sit down with a cold drink afterwards 🚿🧃
Good luck on your final run. I’ve just registered for park run but I’ve not set a date yet, some consolidation runs first I think.
The website for my local Parkrun invites everyone for a coffee afterwards but the cafe closed about a year ago and is now a hair salon!Possibly a bit more useful for all that hot and sweaty hair 😂
Doing parkrun straight after graduation is a great idea. - I did the same, 4 years ago. Do consolidate the 30 mins run for a few weeks first before extending to 5kms and you’ll be fine, and stick to your own pace; it’s easy to get carried away with everyone else.
Most parkruns have an area where you can leave a rucksack . Put in a small towel and a bottle of water and a change if top if you like. To be honest though, by the time you’ve done some stretches, you’ll soon cool down. In fact, apart from high summer, it’s good to have an extra layer to put on. Don’t forget everyone else will have run too so you are all in the same boat.
We visit local cafés after our runs and the first thing they do is bring us water and glasses.
