Parkrun fear conquered

Well had my plan in my head and used the warm up walk up to the park, all well so far, paused the podcast till the start but when putting my phone back in my bumbag touched the screen and knocked it off. Faffed around trying to get to the correct bit to start running but couldn't get the correct bit. So just started the podcast from the beginning telling myself that I had to remember the time Laura was giving me was 5mns out. OK started at the end of the runners and got into my own zone and treating it as my usual run route soon settled down. Surprisingly I didn't find it a slog today. I then forgot about the 5mns until Laura was telling me I only had 1mns left. I could see the path to the finish so walked about half a minute but thought, I still feel good so ran to the finish line which is cruelly up an incline then down to the finish. I know I was only supposed to run for 28 mns but I was SO close to the end. My time was 36,53 and it felt great consideringI had faffed around with my phone. It worked for me being at the end of the runners and felt great picking off people on my way. Bring on wk9 I know I can do it.

Thank you. Yes it has given me SO much confidence and I now know starting at the back of everyone keeps me grounded.

That’s fantastic news. Glad that it all went well and you’ve put your worries behind you. Onwards to week 9. You’re nearly there.

I usually start near the back, too, then move up the ranks gradually.

My local course is quite hilly and first timers there often misjudge it and end up walking, even ones with a 250 emblazoned on their tee shirts.

Fantastic! 👏....I always start near the back, I’m never going to trouble those who complete in 30 mins or less....😂......you know there are some beautiful parkrun courses out there, the one I did this morning was on a National Trust property, through woodland, the scent from the bluebells was just wonderful, it also had sea views, (did have some great big hills!) but it was a joy.....

That’s a great time by the way, (any parkrun time is a good time) you should be very proud, we’ll done you 💪🏃‍♀️👍👏

I hope you go again.
