Anyone else commencing C25K this week and want to share moral support?

I was running three times a week before lockdown but I’ve lost so much fitness. I can’t run for toffee now. But I will again.

I saw people running Parkrun last weekend and I was consumed with envy. So here I am.

Welcome back! You do have an advantage over most who do Couch to 5K in that you have prior experience of running and have done C25K before.

Best of luck in resuming your journey. 👍

Thanks, Nowster. You wouldn’t think I was advantaged if you saw me out running this evening. But hopefully I’ll improve. It felt great to be out there. Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Hiya. I did my 2nd run yesterday. It felt amazing. I am no runner and never thought I would ever want to be but walk/ jogging is really helping me find a mindset to include exercise into my daily routine. It also meant I had more calories to choose from. I use my fitbit to help me because I need to lose weight as well. 😀

Hi Vanlife51 , it's great that you're enjoying C25K.

Since you also mention that you're looking to lose weight, I just wanted to say don't be disheartened if it doesn't drop off during C25K.

While C25K is a great way of getting fitter and more toned, it's not a weight loss programme in itself. The runs in the programme don't use up many calories, and if you find yourself thinking "I can eat a bit more because I've exercised" you might well over-compensate. I've done that myself in the past!

The good news is that longer-term, if you continue to run, you may well lose weight and keep it off - that's certainly been my experience.

Happy running!

Great advice. Thank you. I have been very guilty of that in the past. I log all food and drink in the fitbit app and stay within my budget, most of the time. I WfH and have noticed how few steps get done unless I intentionally include exercise. So I'm on a mission to get a good balance which is so much easier after the winter passes.

Thing is... take it all at your own pace... slow and steady works wonderfully :)

Pop into the Catch-Up Corner too please... lots of friends there, starting C25K, halfway through, nearing graduation and also folk repeating this great programme, after injury, illness or just the impact of life generally!

Good for you for taking that first step again I am sure you will fly through this since you used to run 3 times a week. I for one would def run for toffee :)

Thank you all for the lovely welcome back messages.I’d forgotten what a supportive community this is.

1 did W1R2 this evening. What a beautiful day for running round the park. I’m not finding the breathing challenging but my calves can certainly feel it. I think that’s why it’s a really good idea to start at the beginning of the C25K programme. It gets your everything used to running again: heart, lungs, glutes, calves, hammies, Achilles’ tendon, etc.

Someone mentioned weight. Something I need to attend to after too many lockdown treats. Running actually makes me want to eat healthily. I’m looking forward to getting my va va voom back.
