I have heard some excuses for being late but...

I had arrange to go for a run with one of our running group this morning but just as I was about to leave the house I got a phone call from her. She said "I am going to be a bit late, I have a large white rabbit in the middle of my lawn. I will ring you back."

Twenty minutes later I get a call, " Can you go without me" she said, "I cant leave the rabbit here on its own." She then went on to say that she collared a passer by to knock on some houses to see if anyone had lost it. She lives on a fairly busy road and was worried it would get run over. She tried to pick it up but it was too big and it struggled a lot so had to leave it there eating and fertilising her lawn.

I did my run on my own and called her back after to see how she was. She was just about to start her run. Luckily, one of the houses that the passer-by went to knew who it belonged to and they came to collect it. They thanked my friend, put a harness on it and just walked down the road. She said it was a sight to be seen, it was just like taking a dog for a walk.

She is amounting quite a list of lost and strays, first she was followed by a horse on a run (with the dismounted rider frantically trying to catch up). She was in a world of her own with her headphones in and hadn't noticed it trotting behind her. A few months later, we were waiting for her when she rang and said she had found an old mad wandering about. She managed to reunite him with his daughter who was out looking for him. As she said "Why is it always her!!".

It made me smile anyway.

:) :) :)

An Old Man ??? How exciting !! That sounds like a good run and fun things to think of too! Well done you !

The old man had dementia and was wandering around in a vest on a cold morning trying to find his way home. My friend spoke to him and could tell he was confused and had not heard of the street he was looking for. She eventually got him to tell her the town he lived in which was miles away. She noticed he had a medical bracelet on which had his daughter phone number on it. The daughter was out looking for him as her mum had called her to say she woke up and he was gone but luckily was not far away and came to collect him. It was really quite sad to hear about.

Very sad indeed and how very lucky that your friend was there:) My Mum used to wander, but luckily her neighbours kept a real eye on her and we were always able to reach her quickly !

How sweet! It rang bells with me because for a period in my 40s I seemed to be constantly rescuing stray dogs, rounding up the odd rabbit and also rescuing a few blind drunk people 🤣

I have heard of shaggy dog stories, but white rabbits sounds a bit Walter Mitty.

I hope she didn't have an encounter with a White Rabbit like this one:

So she was considering in her own mind (as well as she could, for the day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.

There was nothing so very remarkable in that, nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!" But when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket and looked at it and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and, burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it and was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole, under the hedge. In another moment, down went Alice after it!
