“Well I started this program a few weeks ago & I was doing fine. On my last run I completed W3R3. I then could not go for a run for a few days (for legitimate reasons!) , but these few days have turned into 12 days. The latter & majority of these days did not have a reason I couldn’t go, merely an excuse. One day rolled into the next. I then find myself feeling a failure & asking why I let this happen. So as of today, I’m going back out there. I am going to repeat W3R1 & I’ll then see how I feel. If need be I’ll repeat all of W3, if I feel able I’ll move onto W4 sooner. I really don’t want this happening again.

And in a ‘Strictly’ voice, Keep Running 🏃‍♀️!”

UPDATE:

After the last post I did end up repeating W3R1 & W3R2 and I was back in the game, but then I had another 8 consecutive days that I really couldn’t go out (real reasons & not excuses, including no daylight pre/ post work & 🎄 getting in the way) so I didn’t get W3R3 done! So what I have done this week is repeat W3R2 & finally W3R3 again! Hooray W3’s done (more than once!) Then yesterday I jumped ahead & onto W4R1! I was so pleased to get past W3, however I still know I did the right thing by repeating it due to the long gaps; it definitely works for me. So now W4R1 is under my belt, I feel I’m making progress & I know that I’ve come on a long way since W1R1. So anyone in this place with gaps where days have gone by without any running, just decide if you’d rather soldier on or repeat some previous weeks, I guess as everyone is different there will be a 50/50% divide, but don’t be deflated if you miss a little chunk. When you start again, you’ll feel so pleased, satisfied & proud.

Keep running 🏃‍♀️!

Well done hells_bells2207 great determination! Sometimes those reasons not to run, be it work, weather, time etc they sneak up on you!

What you did is, you realised 👍 and got back out there!! Good stuff, good luck

I totally understand. I started back at the end of March 2020. I finished week 1, then got ill (tummy bug). I started again in April and got to the end of week 2, then realised that the pills I was on had a strict warning against doing exercise.

I restarted in June 2020 (after recovering from some nasty red spider mite bites on my legs) and did three week 1 runs over a fortnight, before continuing to the end of the course normally.

Life can get in the way.

Even though it might feel great at the moment, don't run on consecutive days. You must have a rest day (or two) in between for your body to recover and build up new. When you've been running regularly for six months or more you can break that rule occasionally.

Overdoing things as a new runner can lead to injury. I "pushed" to achieve the headline 5km in 30 minutes on my graduation run. What I didn't realise was that my ankles hadn't become strong enough for me to push my pace, and about 300m from the end of the run I swerved to avoid a puddle and in doing so sprained an ankle. Foolish me didn't stop but continued to the finish. That earned me a September of no running, with a week of painful hobbling and two visits to the physio. I'm fully better now, and I can run faster and further than that nowadays too!
