Hey Everyone

Ok so I am thinking of starting the couch to 5k I have not ran in a really long time, I am definitely not as fit as I used to be but last time I started this journey I ended up having shin splints.

This makes me nervous because I can still feel the pain it caused. So any tips so that I don’t do this again.

Also any recommendations on running shoes and perhaps a light running jacket πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

Thanks so much 😊

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

Shin splints are caused primarily by the impact of running and there is advice in the guide about minimising it, as well as a link to a post about buying running shoes.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

So pleased you've got the courage up to try again ☺️I had shin splints on my first attempt.. I just wasn't properly prepared.

I realized I had to slow right down, and done strength training on non run days.. this made all the difference..I managed to graduate and have been running consistently for more than a year now.. it is a lot of trial and error, keep asking for advice after each run if you need to πŸ‘

Not much advice on running gear 🀣 I've just made it up as I went on x

Good luck πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ‘
