Found today easier than last week ☺️ Maybe because I had slowed down but finding any hill a challenge 🙈 where I am at the moment I’m at the top of a hill so my 1/2 way home is all uphill. Thinking I might do my whole run down and my cool down walk back up. ???thoughts???
Week 2 day 1: Found today easier than last week... - Couch to 5K
Week 2 day 1
Hills are actually you friends - allegedly 🤣 as they help you build strength, fitness and endurance. At the start of my journey I was fortunate in that I managed to find a flat circular trail where I was able to allow my body to adapt to this running malarkey.
I found that it has only been the last few months that I feel comfortable running up hills and I graduated back in June I think. And the hills I run up arent very big 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Again, I make sure I do short strides and don't "force" myself up.
It is your running journey so do whatever you feel comfortable doing. That is the fun part. If you want to go downhill - go downhill. If you want to walk up a slope or walk half way and run the rest - go for it.
Above all, make sure to have fun 👍
Thank you that all makes perfect sense ☺️🎄🎅🏻
Hi Hidden , hills are great! I had to run them throughout C25K because where I live there's no option.
They do take more out of you than running on the flat though. Heading uphill you'll probably feel it in your breathing and heart rate, heading downhill you're likely to notice the impact on your knees.
If you can vary your route to include a mix of both uphill and downhill running and walking that should help. Keep your steps small and don't hesitate to slow down when necessary. Happy running!
I live up a hill too and that's what I did for C25k - ran down them, to the nearest flattish bit, and walked (slowly) uphill home when I'd finished, feeling proud of myself ☺️
I'd reverse the run so 1\2 way home is all downhill?
