3 Year Runniversary

I'm marking this runniversary by saying goodbye to my original C25K shoes!

They took me to my first 10k too. Possibly even my first 10 mile run, but I don't fancy delving that far back into my Strava history to check for sure. Excellent value at £30 😁👍

After about 750k they were retired and used as slippers.

It is time for a change. They will be replaced with the recently retired shoes with over 1000k of use. Oddly, these ones don't seem to show as much wear and tear after taking me so much further.

Happy running! Enjoy your C25K journey and your continued adventures beyond. Hopefully we will see you on The Bridge to 10k

Happy Runniversary those shoes look very like a pair of mine, it’s strange retiring running shoes isn’t it?

They've joined my 'red parkrun' shoes that I retired after about 650k.I still have some blue coloured ones of the same make and model and they are still good after over 1000k

?

Go figure!

Obviously they are good for you, I used to love Reeboks, I’d buy them on ebay, one day i bid on 5 pairs and won4 😀that was a surprise but the new ones are different

The update version I got after the blue pair is rubbish. I'm using them but I've now moved away from both the model and the brand. I have zero loyalty 🤣 or another way to look at it is that I'm not risk averse. I'll try anything at least once! 🤣

My old ones are used as planters, for small, outdoor plants.

So you can still show them some love!

My first pair of proper running shoes are still in use as slippers!

It can be hard to let them go!

Bye shoes. Everyone else shows pics of new shoes. This is a different take on the theme!

🤣 I like to be different!

Happy runniversary Katnap, it’s so hard to say goodbye to shoes. My first pair are still ok for walking and gardening . My local independent running shop takes in old shoes and they get recycled or reused , so I must be a bit more ruthless and get some off my shoe rack. 👠👟🩴👟👞👟🥾👟👢👟👡👟

They were very comfy but that doesn't necessarily mean they were good for my feet. And when you make space on your shoe rack you can buy some new shoes! There's always a silver lining! 🐱👍

You certainly had your money's worth Katnap!

Absolutely! Those red parkrun shoes I mentioned in the thread were £55 and causing me knee pain. Paying more money doesn't mean you will definitely get better shoes!

Happy runniversary to you Katnap, I think any runner whose first running shoes "have had their day" should not bin them, at least the first pair, they are like a reminder of the very first day the runner ran in them, keep them as a souvenir.

The reason your newer shoes have lasted longer is probably because your technique has improved over time. You're probably lighter in landing on them and causing less of a scuffing/scrubbing motion on the soles.

It might be interesting for you to compare the wear patterns on the soles of your original shoes and the megametre (1000km) shoes.

KatnapGraduate in reply to nowster

It's true! The wear pattern is a little different and not as pronounced on the newer shoes.

Also I've been careful to reduce the amount of walking done in them.I swear walking in running shoes does more damage to them than running in them!

Yes the Brooks website says even standing around in them is not good.

Happy 3 year runniversary Katnap! That’s a nice pair of shoes, I hope you get as much pleasure out of them as the retired pair 😃.

A sad farewell I’m sure Katnap! Alternatively you could frame them somehow and put them on the wall as a family heirloom!
