I reminded my legs I can run, and I can πŸ₯³ phewee

6 weeks ago way back in September I last ran, but back then my run frequency was haphazard at best 😬, life's twists and turns (probably key worker exhaustion) saw my running fading and I was grasping at, as and when runs, promising myself to her back into that groove, somewhat unsuccessfully..... Fiddlesticks!

Then came an unforseen family member illness, running enthusiasm derailed.

Enough is enough. I was nudged Almost a week ago by acountrycabbage my super vrb 🀩, next time we'll do it together, this one I needed to do for lil ol me..

Took a while this morning, nightshift sleep gremlins lurked around many corners, but I was nimble and dodged the blighters πŸ’ͺ.

It's a drizzling murky corner of Wales outside, doesn't matter, I'd made it down stairs, the trainers were laced, it's not a cold one out there, so only a light long sleeved T and shorts sorted.

Stretched dynamically I hadn't forgotten how and also a warm up walk, intermingling light jogging.

So let's see if the legs cooperate.

A purposely relaxed pace, it's just a get back out there run, I'd set on a steady 7min klm pace, or tried and it feels... Oooooooohhhhh I've missed this, this is what legs are meant for.

No hills planned just a gentle flat run, the towpaths pretty quiet, the odd cheery walker and narrow boater, everyone's very cheery, even in the mizzly drizzle, it's rewarding when you get that morning cheerful greeting on a run!!

The towpath section ending at the large tunnel, and it was a footpath section that followed, that pace was still hovering about 6.30 so it's ok, not too breathy. If I'm honest at 4k I was thinking hmmm I could call it job done, but I was out, I was enjoying it and the legs weren't disagreeing so one final klm and I'm done, I'm happy it was steady.... Let's hope I can regain that regime, coz I've missed this, both the running and the waffling to you lot.... That showers gonna feel sooooo nice after the drizzle. Mustn't forget to stretch out thoroughly πŸ‘.

Enjoy those Tuesday runs people, don't let gremlins win the dayπŸ’ͺ

Good to know you are back out there Ian.

The ability to run only disappears gradually and you will soon be back up to speed.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Cheers Tim, I was watching the calendar, and it always feels longer than it actually is πŸ‘

You ran after a night shift? respect! I worked friday night, not my usual pattern of work, came home buzzing but didn’t feel like i could run, slept for 2 hours and then felt like a zombie for the next 2 days,

Sorry to hear you’ve been through a tough time but hopefully the run will help

β€’ in reply toSueAppleRun

Nightshift working is a cruel factor of work, I manage pretty well, but I'm permanent nights, whereas my wife does days then a random night shift and that really throws the body clock πŸ₯΄

Same as me then, I was tired all the rest of Saturday then come bedtime I was wide awake, same sunday and still a bit Monday, today I feel like me again

Oh yes the nocturnal lifestyle of a shift worker, I'm on two nights off but tonight, I may just have to have a tipple to encourage the Z's πŸ₯³

Ah I liked your post so much. Well done you for getting out there. I liked 'don't let the gremlins win the day' I'm really trying to overcome inertia and get running again after about a 6 week break. But like you the runs were tailing off well before that. Thanks so much for your inspirational post 😊 and good luck to you.

β€’ in reply toCressidaB

Thanks CressidaB 🌟

That's a graduate badge alongside your name that's means you're a runner πŸ‘

Runners run easy peasy, you know you can, I know you can so beat that inertia, you can get those trainers outside, and if you need a nudge it's autumn and it's beautiful outside

Great to see you back.

The weather (combined with work) over the last few days has not allowed me out, and the snooze button gremlin this morning meant I wasn't up in time to do something before this morning's deluge hit. Maybe this evening…

I know that! I did a wet run a week or so ago. That was just normal rain. The stuff we've had the last couple of days in Manchester has been causing drains to overflow and roads to be blocked.

Yay! I’m so happy to read this post!

It’s funny how simple words can have a big effect. I’m so glad my nudge helped give you a wee boost.

And couldn’t agree more - running for yourself alone can be the bestestest feeling of all.
