Still here, still plodding. Loving that I can hop on the treadmill while hubby goes for a "proper" run, although he would never say that!
I'm planning on trying to do 5k tomorrow, nice and slow however my question to you all is...Do you include your 5 minute warm up walk in your distance? Previously I've done 5k but I've walked for 5 minutes, run for 30 and finished it walking.
Thanks in advance π

Thank you. Even though I've been doing the 30 mins now for a few months I've worked on getting a bit faster, just a bit π but I really want to do a park run and not have to walk half of it π
Thanks, I don't have that sort of tech, I'm female, I'm blonde and I'm Irish! No offence to any other blonde, Irish females π. I can't even operate my phone without the help of My 14yr old son π€ I'll re set the treadmill after my warm up walk and go from there. Thank you for the input though.
Love it I'm blonde not Irish not tech savvi at all, my grandson has to sort my phone out for mr6. I just listen to Laura walk 5 mins run 30 hopefully walk 5
A 5k run is a 5k run........it doesn't include walks. If it does, then it becomes a run/walk, a strategy known as Jeffing which many employ at all distances up to and no doubt beyond marathon distance.
If you want to know what your total workout distance is, then measure your warm up and cool down. If you want to know how far you run then just start your tracker as you start running and remember to stop it when you stop running.
Thank you, I've been trying to do "jeffing" once a week as part of my 3 or 4 runs. I haven't got much faster and still much slower than most. I'll re read the FAQ though, thanks.
Please do Parkrun. It is fantastic. If you have to walk a bit, don't sweat it. It is not just a running test it is a pretty safe social experience - and boy have we missed them recently!
I always do a minimum of a 5 min warm up , and then start my running. So they are completely separate. The run is purely running. When I've achieved my distance or allotted time for running, I then do a cool down walk. But each 3 parts are separate. Keep up the good work. π
Well I did a 5k run! Set treadmill at 5.5km/h to walk, slightly slower than my usual and upped it to 6km/h for the run (my usual walking pace) it took 50 mins to slow jog for 5k but I actually did it! Thanks for all your replies, I didn't think I had it in me but, I did! π
Too be fair, I started because my asthma was horrendous, 12 months ago I couldn't climb the stairs without being out of breath. My meds are now being stepped down (twice so far) due to c25k, the fact I can control my breathing for 50 minutes is amazing. I've never been sporty and when I started I doubted I would get beyond wk 1. With help from this page and the support of my husband I've not only completed c25k but I've pushed on and today managed 5k. For all of this I am grateful and thankful π
I don't stop to change strava from walk to run, but at this stage, I am getting to know that my 5minute walk is about 0.4k and I also know where those points are around my home, so I just take 0.8k/10minutes off my total distance to know how far I have actually run and leave the whole thing recorded as a run on strava.
When I was doing C25k, my earlier weeks I set Strava going as I left the house, and stopped it as I returned. As the runs built up, I excluded the warmup/cool down walks. But, do what you want - youβre the only one that matters.
