Loss of appetite after running…am I weird?!

Hello all, been a while since I posted but I’ve been lurking and continuing my C25k journey (did run 1 of week 8 today) and reading and being motivated by all your inspirational posts 😊

I have a bit of a weird food thing going on that seems to be related to running - I wondered if anyone else had the same thing going on?

I usually run late morning, lunchtime as this fits best around work, dogs, hubby etc. I have noticed though that on my appetite on running days is pitiful for our evening meal. Running days I don’t eat any differently to normal, and I’m always conscious that I’m hydrating well. But evening meals after a run my normal appetite is gone! I end up picking at my meal and a good half to two thirds of it ends up in the bin 😮😧 Not like me at all!

Anyone else get this or am I just odd? 🤔🤔

This is perhaps not as strange as you may think .Running (or other aerobic excercises) have been shown to change your hormones which can suppress your appetite 😁

I used to do long runs first thing in the morning and even if I had run 10 miles (perhaps even more so) I often had to force myself to eat some breakfast on return. I simply was not hungry and could easily have carried on without eating, although I know that is not a wise course of action. Some people would love to have this suppressed appetite, but as someone who has never been overweight it would do me no good to follow the drive of my hormones and ignore the necessary refuelling, so you definitely are not alone.

Good advice given and something you need to monitor. As IannodaTruffe says... the fuel has to go in, in order to get the results and stay healthy!I know, to my cost after not taking my own advice on that, to our friends here!

So...maybe a good healthy breakfast, and lunch ? Do you run before or an hour or so after... then a lighter dinner in the evening.

Maybe look, also at your eating regime.

This is a great time of the year for healthy eating, with loads of simple tasty choices for the warmer weather.

Husband and I are getting back into our Mediterranean eating regime, things have slipped during this pandemic!

Sustaining and filling breakfasts... light lunches and lighter dinners! But all satisfyingly meals which give the energy levels needed for our exercise:)

Hope this helps?

No, you're not odd - unless I am too. 🤔

I often have to make a conscious decision to refuel. I find the longer my run, the less my appetite. I usually run early morning these days, and often forget that I haven't had breakfast until nearly lunchtime.

I'm pretty sure I make up the calories the day after though. 😆

Yes, I'm often not hungry on a run day, but will be the next day, especially if I've done intervals or a long run. I just go with it, eat when I'm hungry don't if I'm not.
