Does anyone else get really really hungry after a run? Did 7k for the first time on Wednesday and all day Thursday I was ravenous. I am wanting to lose weight but all I did was eat sandwiches on Thursday 😭

I'm the opposite on the days I run I'm not hungry. 😊

I’m so jealous! I love running but not the hunger! It seems that when I go to the gym my appetite is reduced and I can lose weight and build muscle but when I run, it’s the opposite!

I think it's just about finding the right food to eat if you're hungry.

My favourite at lunchtime is poached eggs and whole meal seeded toast.

Maybe you could have some ready chopped up fruit in a tub.

😊😊

Good idea Buddy34. I will have to do a bit of meal prepping. To be honest I think I’ve been slipping a bit with my sugar free plan so it’s probably why my appetite has increased.

When you feel hungry, try drinking water.

I'm the opposite, find running supresses my appetite.

While going through c25k I was seriously hungry all the time, couldn't get enough calories in. Weird as I'm normally a very small eater. Then suddenly it was if my body recalibrated and I'm back to normal eating again. Make sure the food you have beside you is good for you - fill up with fresh fruit and veg - raw carrots take so long to chomp through you can pretend you've eaten more than you actually have. Home made vegetable soup is another good one, full of goodness and leaves you feeling fuller and hydrated longer.

Maybe it was upping to 7k? When I get used to it I might recalibrate πŸ™

Thanks guys. I work in a school and started to get shaky on Thursday despite eating normally. I am the opposite when I do weights/body weight exercises. I normally find exercise to be the best appetite suppressant but not running πŸ™„. I also have pcos so blood sugar is an issue for me. I’ve decided to really watch my sugar intake again, drink loads more water and start taking a metformin again each evening. Will let you know how I get on!

Since my brother got a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, I've moved to low carb, higher fat and find I don't get ravenously hungry - unless I fall off the wagon. Then for days after, the carb cravings are ghastly, like an addiction. Cheese, nuts and a mug of hot water seem to be my best cures, and then keeping away from the food cupboards!

This is me! So do you not get as hungry on the low carb diet-even after running?

Runawaytrainer profile image
RunawaytrainerGraduateβ€’ in reply toBeany123

Not usually. I can sometimes run before breakfast and not be aware of needing to eat until about 11am. From a 6pm meal the night before. But put more carbs back in the equation...! I could almost live on nuts, mind you!

Yes I do. After a run, I want to eat the entire contents of the house! Unfortunately, I'm a type 1 diabetic and carb control is vital. Doesnt stoo me even eyeing up the cats bowl πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‚

I get you totally! I need to watch sugar etc as pcos is linked to type 2 diabetes. I am going to try meal prepping in advance, esp with eggs as they always help me stick to diet.

πŸ˜‚...I don't think I've ever been that hungry, my cats are very safe, they are defo welcome to it 🐱

To be honest, no 😬.

I don't eat or drink before, I have a glass of water and a cup of coffee after and that can set me up for hours.

If could stop all snacking/nibbling, and just eat at meal times I would probably be like a racing snake 🐍

Next years resolution !

You will definitely lose body fat if you run regularly. It is normal to be ravenous the next day and your body needs the calories. Just listen to it and eat protein and carbs, staying away from snack and junk food.

No, thank goodness!

Though I always run on an empty stomach as I get indigestion if I eat beforehand...so am usually eating tea, or on a Sunday morning breakfast about an hour or so after a run anyway!

I think as your body gets used to running longer distances it will stop begging you for food πŸ˜‰...good luck πŸ‘

Thank you. I really hope so. Did quite an intense workout using the elliptical, rower and free weights yesterday and my appetite was significantly reduced all evening. Running tonight so going to up the protein and see how that goes 😳
