Turf Toe ??

Has anyone experienced turf toe ? Apparently this is what resulted in stretching in bed a couple of weeks ago - a very swollen painful big toe that I could not bear to put weight on. Condition has slightly improved but still swollen and can give the odd twinge. Having rested as much as possible I tried a gentle run this morning - 10minutes run 2 minutes walk then a final 5 minutes run which doesn't appear to have done any further damage. I'm really curious to know if anyone else has experienced a turf toe and is it something likely to return ?

I haven't had TT but I did end up with restricted movement in one big toe without realising it which led to other issues. I'm now very careful to stretch my toes and keep them supple and as bendy as possible. Similarly to the advice for TT a physio and a podiatrist wanted me to reduce to movement and pressure and use orthotics. That did not work for me. Exactly the opposite has worked better, keeping my toes strong and flexible seems to be my key 👍🏻

Keep and eye on it, measure its flexibility against the other one. 🤞🏻

Thank you for replying . I The GP gave a diagnosis on a photograph of said toe and my concerns which I appreciated but I would have preferred if they had actually seen my toe. I certainly don't have the same flexibility in toes at the moment - however I do have an appointment tomorrow with a podiatrist so will be interesting to hear what their advice will be.

If you can, try to see a physio. I can almost guarantee the podiatrist will recommend orthotics 🙄 I saw 3 different physios, only one of which actually got hold of my toe and proceeded to "loosen" it up manually. He gave me exercises to help restore the flexibility back to the toe. (Things like scrunching a towel with your toes) That worked. I did pay out almost 400 quid on custom insoles but they ended up causing more pain within about 6 weeks...

The thought of someone holding my toe and trying to "loosen" it up fills me with dread. The pain of trying to move it myself even wiggling my toes without touching it is almost unbearable . However advice and support given will be appreciated and followed . I will get back to you after my podiatry appointment tomorrow. Thanks for your comments.

The podiatrist (gently) examined my toe to find out the extent of injury and to test the range of motion. It's basically a sprain of the main joint in my big toe which will improve given time. To carry out flexing toes as often as possible to avoid long term stiffness. Should see an improvement within the next week or so........hopefully.

👍🏻 that's fantastic news 😁 and no mention of expensive orthotics! I take it all back, that one is a good one 👍🏻😁

Ouch, that sounds painful

Do let us know what the podiatrist says
